Job Title:
Home-Start East Antrim Family Group Leader
Location:
Home-Start East Antrim main office in Carrickfergus. The post holder will be delivering group support in community settings across Carrickfergus, Newtownabbey and Larne and therefore will need their own transport (mileage covered).

Hours of work:
18 hours per week worked over 4 days Mon - Thur (term time only available if preferred).
Fixed term contract until May 2027 (This post has been funded by the National Lottery Community Fund NI).
Salary:
NJC Scale 3 Points 5-6; starting at point 5, £12.21 PH.

Purposes of the job:
1. To lead, plan, resource and deliver group provision and events for Home-Start supported families.
2. To support a team of group volunteers.
3. To provide group support services to families which reduce isolation, provide connection with peers and positively impact family life.
4. To widen the reach and impact of Home-Start East Antrim in line with the needs of local families.
Main Responsibilities
Supporting families:
1. Lead, maintain and deliver family group services, creating a welcoming, safe and nurturing environment for Home-Start supported families.
2. Be aware of group dynamics ensuring groups provide a non-judgemental environment for families and ensure equality of opportunity, fairness and diversity in all aspects of work.
3. Build positive support relationships with families and demonstrate a warm and friendly approach.
4. Respond sensitively and appropriately to safeguarding issues, ensuring compliance with Home-Start and local safeguarding policies and procedures.
5. Prepare the venue providing safe and stimulating play and craft for pre-school children during term time, together with siblings of school age on occasion.
6. Encourage and assist the active participation of parents/carers in play and other activities as appropriate.
7. Conduct support reviews with group support families in line with Home-Start policies.
8. Provide healthy snacks and drinks with awareness of food allergies and intolerances.
Volunteers:
1. Build and maintain good working relationships with volunteers and ensure volunteers feel valued and engaged.
2. Provide regular encouragement, direction, feedback and support to volunteers.
Administration:
1. Liaise appropriately and positively with staff, volunteers and key stakeholders.
2. Create clear session plans, risk assessments and delivery procedures and communicate these with the team in a timely manner.
3. Maintain appropriate family support records to the required standard.
4. Keep a register at each session, detailing names of all those attending including families, volunteers and speakers and record these on the HS database.
5. Maintain regular communication with families between group sessions to encourage attendance and participation.
6. Maintain systems for monitoring and evaluation of group sessions.
Health and Safety:
1. Ensure adherence to the Home-Start East Antrim Health and Safety Policy.
2. Implement, review, and update session risk assessments.
3. Record all accidents or incidents in the relevant accident or incident book and report as appropriate.
4. Ensure that all toys and other equipment are cleaned as appropriate and regularly checked for safety and wear and tear.
5. Ensure at the end of the sessions, the room is left clean and tidy with equipment stored away in an organised and safe manner.
The post holder may be required to undertake any other duties that fall within the nature of the role and responsibilities as detailed above.
