This newly formed role will lead the creation of a framework of initiatives across the business to achieve our goal of being a net zero carbon company by 2035. The successful candidate will be part of the Engineering team reporting directly to the Engineering Director but will work with all areas of the business.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities for this role include:
* Identifying sustainability risks and appropriate mitigation measures and highlighting opportunities to increase Airedale’s sustainability credentials across all levels of the business.
* Enhancing the sustainable business aims through operations, processes, supply chain, products and systems.
* Regular reviews of current KPIs and maintaining a roadmap of improvement steps.
* Lead and co-ordinate the path to net zero carbon emissions by 2035 across the company, including scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.
* Embodied carbon calculations for new and existing products and development of a generic calculator to be used on future product developments to enable quick embodied carbon assessments.
* Creation of Environmental Product Declarations.
* Product lifecycle analysis for carbon emissions.
* Support the implementation of appropriate ESG software, allowing for external reporting and support for customers.
* Research and identification of sustainable technology appropriate for Airedale’s current and future product portfolio.
* Work directly with the product development teams to continuously improve product design to reduce lifecycle carbon emissions.
* Working with the procurement team, identify opportunities for carbon reduction in the supply chain.
* Work with the Operations and Environmental Management teams to report on plant level carbon emissions with the aim to reduce.
* Maintaining strong knowledge of UK, EMEA, NA and APAC sustainability and climate change policies at both a regional and industry level, ensuring frameworks and processes are created and adhered to.
* Alignment with corporate sustainability initiatives and execution of data-centre-specific pacts (i.e. The iMasons Climate Accord)
* Knowledge distribution throughout the business to ensure all departments are kept up to date with relevant requirements and policies.
Skills/Experience
The successful candidate should have the following skills:
* Degree in an environmental engineering discipline or relevant Science-based subject.
* Strong knowledge of sustainable engineering, material selection and lifecycle carbon reduction.
* Experience in a sustainability role and ESG software.
* Familiar with embodied carbon calculators such as the CIBSE TM65.
* Strong knowledge of the social, economic and environmental aspects of sustainability.
* Knowledge of sustainability and climate change adaptation strategies.
* Energy reduction through behaviour change.
* Good teamworking skills and ability to manage projects to completion.
* Have a genuine passion and interest within the field of Sustainability and low carbon design.
