Painter & Decorator
James Cook University Hospital – Middlesbrough, TS4 3BW
Permanent – Full Time, 37.5 hours per week, 0800-1600 hours
Salary: £26,910.00, plus Serco Benefits.
Here at Serco, we’re looking for a Painter/Decorator to join us at James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.
In this position you will work as part of the Building Fabric Team, providing an in-house painting and decorating service, you will also be expected to have knowledge and where necessary assist in all other general FM maintenance tasks. The responsibilities within this Job Description are subject to change according to the requirements of the service and you may be expected to undertake other duties within the Contract and Serco.
You will be required to carry out internal and external painting and decorating requirements, plaster walls ready for decoration and carry out minor repairs to surfaces and structures prior to decorating/painting. You will adhere to a planned programme of painting and redecoration in accordance with the building management plan and provide operational support to all Estates functions in emergency situations.
Main accountabilities
Reporting into the Building Supervisor you will be part of the building maintenance team responsible for providing the building maintenance across the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital site as part of Serco’s Hard FM estates service to the NHS.
The post holder will ensure that the hospitals’ building, and fabric services and equipment are maintained to a high standard and ensure their continued quality, safety and reliability.
You will undertake building and fabric planned preventative maintenance as well as first response to carry out repairs as requested by the client and be supported with any associated training requirements i.e. steps & ladder, health, and safety, working at heights etc. This work is managed through our electronic handheld device and task management system and will typically include:
- Re-decoration and repair work where required to include associated making good and preparation to:
- Walls
- Ceilings
- Door frames
- Windowsills
- External canopies
- Steel structures
- Skirting
- Fire stopping/compartmentation work subject to suitable training – installation and repairs.
- Minor flooring repair work.
What you’ll need to do the role
Essential –
- City and Guilds/Apprenticeship.
- Relevant certification or equivalent experience
- City & Guilds in Building Studies
Desirable –
- Advance Craft Certificate
- ISOH, ROSPA, Working Safely.
- Tower scaffold, Ladder Awareness
- Woodworking Machinery Training Certificate
Skills and Abilities –
- Ability to problem solve building fabric defects.
- Interpret operational manuals.
- Ability to establish best solution for problem.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Capable of planning new installations and refurbishment.
- Manipulation of fine tools and equipment.
- Concentration for fault finding.
- Flexible approach to work.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.
