Job Description:
The Future Horizons Upstream Packaging Innovation Manager enables new-to-Haleon, new-to-category / new-to-industry packaging building blocks to be identified, evaluated, and selected for pre-development. These building blocks in turn underpin our ability to strengthen our category and BU innovation pipelines and deliver our 2030 sustainable packaging goals.
This role focuses on the Scout-Attract:Evaluate-Map:Inspire-Connect cycle for emerging technologies and solutions, structured through the framework of our Technology Platforms vs clearly defined strategic priority areas on an H2H3 horizon.
The role also has responsibility to drive the connection to the business client through the packaging CoP Outside-In pillar.
The final objective is the formal integration of an identified solution (from a performance-managed front end funnel) into an approved Technology Platform Roadmap or directly into the scope of a Category or BU innovation project via a PMB or equivalent.
The role fosters strong collaboration with the Packaging procurement team in order to ensure shared priorities and efficient delivery of objectives, as well as excellent partnership with the broader R&D organization, Innovation leads, Design, Legal & IP, Sustainability, QSC.
Responsibilities:
1. Building, delivering, and continually improving the front end Open Innovation for R&D packaging.
2. SCOUT-ATTRACT: Apply and continually improve a set of tools to enable structured, efficient Scouting vs strategic priority areas. Operationalize the packaging arm of a new FH digital front door to attract technology and solution providers.
3. EVALUATE-MAP: Evaluate solutions vs DFVS, Maturity, Capex, Supplier Capability; map alternatives vs each other into 2D matrix & reco.
4. INSPIRE-CONNECT: Work with Design partners to invent and explore degrees of freedom and communicate superiority potential of identified solutions. Co-produce with rdpk high impact business client connections.
Measurable Impact:
1. FRONT END FUNNEL: Performance-manage a high value funnel of strongly relevant emerging technologies and solutions, balanced in terms of platform contribution vs identified opportunities, volume vs capacity to predevelop, maturity levels, and H2H3 impact timing.
2. ACTIVE LIBRARY: Ensure the work product within the funnel is readily accessible and searchable through a curated digitally-enabled Active Library.
3. CoP DRIVEN: Drive awareness of, connection to, and contribution to the Active Library.
4. LANDING RATE: Track this based on formal integration of the solution into an approved TPR project or directly into the scope of a Category or BU innovation project via a PMB or equivalent.
Preferred Education:
Degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Packaging Science, Industrial Design or related field.
Job Related Experience:
* An experienced SME capable of engaging at R&D packaging leadership level.
* Ability to operate with a high level of autonomy.
* Capable of applying high-end digital search techniques and coupling with analytical skills.
* Excellent communication and supplier relationship management skills up to leadership level.
* Capable of communicating fluently on brand, consumer experience, sustainability (ecodesign, trusted materials, inclusivity), IP, sourcing, finance, operations, and supply chain.
* Ability to dynamize, integrate, and influence with business acumen across BU R&D teams & partner functions to drive results.
* Regarded as an expert practitioner in the application of front end Open Innovation.
