Weston College is the regional provider for the Prison Education Framework (PEF) across the South West of England and is now seeking to recruit an outstanding and highly motivated Lecturer in Carpentry to join the team at HMP Portland. This is a part-time position working up to 18.5 hours per week week. The actual working hours / days will be discussed with the successful applicant. Please note: the salary and holiday hours as shown on the Job Description are based on working the full 18.5 hours per week. Successful candidates for this position may be eligible for a ‘Golden Hello’ payment of up to £4,000. (subject to Weston College Group Policy, please contact hrweston.ac.uk for further information). Day to day duties Organisational and administrative work. Preparation, assessment and marking. Developing and maintaining a full course file, including comprehensive scheme of learning and lesson planning. Developing and completing ILPs and contextual statements to monitor individual learner progress. Required skills and qualifications A Degree, or professional qualification, which is appropriate to the work. Knowledge and experience of current teaching and learning strategies. Excellent team working, communication and interpersonal skills. About HMP Portland HMP Portland is an adult male prison and young offender institution (YOI) on the Isle of Portland, Dorset, for men aged 18 and over. Residents can train and earn qualifications in professions such as bricklaying, painting and decorating and carpentry and joinery. Other courses offered include functional skills, PSD and music. Portland residents have the opportunity to leave the prison for short periods of time, this is known as ROTL (release on temporary licence) which can be used to gain work experience in the local community and prepare them for release.
