£28,144 per annum

About the role:
Responsible for the preparation, movement and storage of objects as part of a major storage move project, with a particular focus on the rehouse of objects in new collection stores in the World Conservation and Exhibitions Centre. This role is primarily technical. Problem solving is a key aspect of the role, and a flexible approach to working is essential.
The post-holder will be expected to work at the Museum’s off-site store at Orsman Road, Hackney. There will also be work at the main Museum site at Bloomsbury.
Key areas of responsibility:
1. To facilitate the movement, packing and rehousing of objects across the collections.
2. To observe best practice in all aspects of object handling and collections storage.
3. To monitor security of objects and to maintain them in good condition in storage and in transit.
4. To maintain and update essential object documentation, including location information and photography.
5. To follow Integrated Pest Management procedures.
6. To assist with training and skill-sharing as required, including supervision of volunteers as required.
7. To assist with collections audits.
About you:
• Good general education including GCSEs or equivalent
• Demonstrable interest in aspects of the Museum’s collections
• Ability to work well as part of team
• Self-motivated and able to use initiative
• Manual dexterity
• IT skills
• Understanding and appreciation of materials and objects
