Description Job Description Do you want to play a key role in the Scottish Government’s efforts to tackle the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss? The Marine Directorate is responsible for the integrated management of Scotland’s seas and we are looking for a dedicated Policy Manager to lead efforts in managing marine Invasive Non-Native Species (INNS), a major threat to biodiversity and marine businesses. The role is based within our Marine Climate and Biodiversity programme, which focusses on initiatives that fulfil statutory duties and a range of projects aimed at protecting and enhancing Scotland’s marine environment and supporting Scotland’s vision of ‘clean, healthy, safe, productive and diverse seas, managed to meet the long term needs of nature and people’. You will lead the creation and implementation of policies aimed at preventing the introduction and spread of marine INNS in Scotland. The role involves close collaboration with scientific advisors, statutory nature conservation bodies, stakeholders and partners throughout Scotland and the UK. Responsibilities Briefing and advice (for senior officials and/or Ministers). Correspondence (e.g. Ministerial, official, PQs, FoIs). Communications activity (incl. media, speeches, visits). Drafting and preparing of official documents (including guidance, strategies, publications). Development and management of measures (including statutory measures) to control the spread of INNS in the marine environment. Ensuring the requirements of Scotland’s Non-Native Species Code of Practice with regard to the marine environment are communicated and met. Participation and engagement with partners and stakeholders, including coordinating the Scottish marine INNS group and ensuring Scotland’s interests are represented in relevant UK-wide and international fora.
