2 weeks ago Be among the first 25 applicants
Here at Press Red Rentals Limited, we rent audio-visual, computer, lighting, sound and video equipment for trade shows and other types of corporate events.
Over the past twenty-one years, we have steadily grown our business with a sizeable increase in the post-pandemic years. As a result of this growth, we are now looking to recruit an Audio-Visual/Event Technician to join our team.
We would expect most applicants for this position to have experience of one or more of the product areas in which we operate. A good all-round product knowledge is preferred.
You may already work at another hire or production company, or work in the theatre/live entertainment area.
However, we would also like to encourage people with a basic knowledge of equipment to apply for this position as a trainee – if you have the right work ethic, we can teach you the skills.
IN GENERAL
The role of an Audio-Visual/Event Technician at Press Red is multifaceted. The primary function is working alongside our stand builder clients to deliver great experiences for end customers. We work across the UK and into Europe, providing services at shows as diverse as Anuga (food) to MWC (mobile phones).
This isn’t a Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm position. There’s a fair amount of weekend working, and early starts/late finishes. There will be the need for time away from home in both the UK and Europe; we try to keep this to a minimum, but trips can be of between 7 to 14 days in length. We do have an incentive scheme to compensate for time spent away from home.
This position also includes driving to and from site at home and abroad. We run a fleet of 3.5t and 7.2t vehicles, and rent-in larger vehicles when required. If you have a Class C or Class C+E licence, so can drive vehicles over 3.5t, this may be considered advantageous to your application.
THE JOB
For the most part, this job involves installing LED TVs and Touch Screens of varying sizes onto the walls of exhibition stands, so you’ll need to be comfortable calculating screen heights, using impact drivers, hole saws etc. You’ll also know how to connect equipment together and be able to distinguish an HDMI from a DisplayPort.
The other main part of the technicians’ role is to install and configure LED screens. We are an Absen rental house and use Novastar processing, so if you’re applying for this position on the basis that you have LED experience, then we’d expect you to be fairly fluent in NovaLCT, SmartLCT or COEX VMP.
We also provide sound and lighting equipment for corporate events (no rock ‘n’ roll or theatre here). We use Allen & Heath and Soundcraft Mixing Desks, Sennheiser & JTS Wireless Microphones, and FBT & LDSystems speaker systems. For lighting, we use Avolites and Chamsys control, and Elumen8, LEDJ and Equinox Fixtures, and we use Blackmagic, RGBlink and JVC video equipment.
The majority of the job will see you on-site at the main exhibition centres in the UK and Europe for installation and de-rig. There are also occasions where we have to provide technical support and operate equipment during presentations etc.
This type of work also relies upon our team being able to work under their own initiative – we don’t try and micro-manage from the office. Often you will be called upon to make decisions on the fly to get the job done.
YOU
Due to the nature of the position, we anticipate you being relatively physically fit, due to the lifting of equipment during installation and de-rig. A driving licence with fewer than six penalty points is essential. Due to insurance requirements, we prefer applicants to be 25 years old or over – however, we can make exceptions for the right candidate. A current, valid passport is also required.
You should live a sensibly commutable distance from our headquarters in Telford, Shropshire (TF7 4QT) – the longest current commute for any of our team is approximately 20 minutes – so we recommend a maximum commute time of 45 minutes. At the present time, we will reject applications from people who offer to relocate, as we would be uneasy if the successful applicant failed their probationary period.
Above all, you should have a strong work ethic with good attention to detail, and a willingness to learn. You can’t be expected to know everything about all the equipment to use, but you are expected to develop your skillset as your employment progresses.
Interpersonal skills are also important in this position as you have to communicate well with clients on-site, some of whom don’t speak English as a first language.
Finally, you must have the right to work in the UK, and not be banned from travelling in the Schengen area. Having a valid passport from a Schengen country may be an advantage when applying.
FINALLY
This position is nominally 37.5hrs (9am to 5pm with 30 minutes for lunch), Monday to Friday. However, working outside of these hours (early starts, late finishes, weekend working) are an essential part of the role.
Salary Range: £25,000 to £30,000 per annum, dependent upon experience.
Paid Overtime, Company Pension Scheme (NEST).
28 days holiday as standard
Additional leave is available as compensation for working away
Applicants must speak English (additional languages are useful)
On-going training, both in-house and externally.
If you think you have the experience and skills we need, and can be an asset to our company, please email your CV to jobs@pressred.biz.
