About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Automation Engineer to deliver automation and orchestration solutions supporting MOD’s critical IT infrastructure. The role focuses on enhancing operational efficiency and reliability through automation of infrastructure deployments, configuration management, and continuous integration processes within secure MOD environments.
This is a hybrid role, requiring approximately two days per week at MOD Corsham. Candidates must hold DV clearance and be sole UK nationals.
Key Responsibilities
1. Develop and implement infrastructure automation using tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Terraform, and PowerShell.
2. Automate deployments, configuration management, and operational tasks within MOD's secure environments, enhancing efficiency and reducing manual intervention.
3. Ensure all automation solutions comply fully with MOD security standards (JSP 440 & JSP 604).
4. Manage and maintain infrastructure-as-code repositories, ensuring accurate documentation, version control, and compliance tracking.
5. Provide technical support and troubleshooting for automation-related issues across MOD IT environments.
6. Engage with stakeholders, participating in technical meetings to align automation strategies with operational objectives and compliance requirements.
7. Conduct knowledge transfer activities and produce detailed technical documentation and training materials.
Essential Experience & Skills
1. Proven experience implementing infrastructure automation solutions within secure MOD or defence environments.
2. Strong expertise in automation tools and frameworks, including Ansible, Puppet, Terraform, and PowerShell.
3. Comprehensive understanding of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), DevOps practices, and continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD) methodologies.
4. Familiarity with secure network and infrastructure configurations, MOD accreditation processes, and JSP security frameworks.
5. Experience automating deployments and configuration management for complex IT infrastructures.
6. Excellent stakeholder communication skills, capable of clearly articulating complex technical solutions.
7. Experience working within Defence Digital, ISS, or equivalent MOD IT teams.
8. Certifications or formal training in automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Terraform, or similar technologies.
9. Experience integrating automation solutions within classified CIS environments.
10. Knowledge of cloud and hybrid infrastructure deployments in MOD contexts.
Security & Nationality Requirements
Due to the sensitive nature of this role, only sole UK nationals are eligible. Candidates must hold active DV Clearance prior to commencing the role.
