Job title: Commissioning Discipline Lead-SIPS
Location: Barrow in Furness- On Site
Salary: £70,865+ Dependent of skills and experience
What you’ll be doing:
* Provide overall strategic direction for Ships and Integrated Platform Systems (SIPS) test sections, ensuring the programme’s work scope is effectively implemented and discharged
* Hold test sections accountable for adherence to safe systems of work, control processes, and quality standards
* Provide functional leadership for Test Section delivery management team in developing and implementing schedules and cost profiles
* Ensure adequate recruitment, development, and deployment of SQEP (Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel) resources to meet programme requirements
* Oversee career management and development of Test Section staff, ensuring alignment with strategic business objectives
* Provide governance and assurance over the implementation of Test & Commissioning policies, processes, and toolsets
* Manage core or business T&C projects and initiatives, ensuring best practices are shared and implemented across the programmes
Your skills and experiences:
Essential
* Chartered Engineer or working towards within a Mechanical or Electrical background
* Extensive commissioning experience, with a deep understanding of Test & Commissioning principles, practices, and ongoing delivery within a highly regulated environment
* Leadership skills, with experience managing live Test, Commissioning, and Control of Work throughout the commissioning lifecycle
* Effective influencing skills, able to guide and motivate teams to align with Business Strategic Objectives via the Integrated Business Plan
* Awareness of global market differences, including customer cultures and approaches, with knowledge of performance and specifications of products and platforms
Desirable
* In-depth knowledge of commissioning within submarines, the broader UK enterprise, and the defence industry, including competitor strategies and commercial markets
* MBA/MSc/Degree in Engineering discipline or equivalent experience
* ILM Level 3 or CMI Level 5/7

The Ship Test Section team:
This role presents a unique opportunity to lead and shape the Test & Commissioning function within one of the most advanced submarine programs in the world. You’ll have the chance to define and drive the strategic vision for our team, becoming the key expert across all programs. As the “go-to” authority, you’ll collaborate closely with two other like-minded professionals at the same level, all striving to implement best practices across the board.
This position provides exposure to groundbreaking projects, including the Dreadnought, Astute class, and SSN AUKUS programs, giving you a comprehensive view of BAE Systems’ Submarine Sector. You’ll also have the opportunity to guide and share knowledge with over 150 BAE Systems commissioning employees, further strengthening our collective expertise.
