Main duties of the job
1. To provide specialist clinical assessment and ongoing Dietetic management of adults with learning disabilities, including those with challenging complex health needs.
2. To provide therapeutic care and health promotional/educational activities in a range of venues across the City including clinics, nursing homes, residential homes, clients’ own homes, day service venues, and respite/short.
3. To act as a source of specialist clinical advice and guidance for clients’ families, carers, and the multi-disciplinary team.
4. To raise nutritional awareness/Healthy Lifestyles and promote the benefits of Nutrition and Dietetic Services with respect to people with a learning disability within the organisation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. To maintain a clinical caseload within specialist areas of Learning Disabilities.
2. To undertake comprehensive specialist nutritional assessments and treatment of clients, diagnosing nutritionally related disorders and being alert to symptoms and signs of wider system disease.
3. To respond appropriately to frequent requests for specialist Dietetic support which include those for people in complex clinical and social situations which require detailed analysis and decision-making.
4. To plan and deliver individualised nutritional care plans based on comprehensive specialist assessment of needs and knowledge of evidence-based practice, modifying the care plans as required.
5. To negotiate and agree dietary or nutritional goals with individual patients and/or their carers using motivational interviewing, counselling, and cognitive behaviour therapy tools as applicable.
6. Directing referrals for specialist medical opinion and mainstream services where appropriate.
7. Being alert to Adult Protection and consent issues for Adults with a Learning Disability.
Person specification
Qualifications / training
* Registered Dietitian with current HCPC registration
* Evidence of CPD
* Degree or equivalent in Dietetics
* Post Graduate training or equivalent relevant experience.
Experience
* Significant Experience in nutritional support and weight management.
* Experience of MDT working.
* Experience of working within a learning disability service.
* Experience of working in a community setting.
* Experience of developing, implementing and evaluating projects and audits.
* Experience of supervising staff.
* Experience of student training.
