If the answer is yes, we believe the role of a Compliance Engineer in our Conformity of Production (CoP) department is the one for you. The introduction of the Great Britain (GB) Type Approval Scheme is an opportunity for the VCA to evolve to meet a new objective in supporting the global automotive industry in gaining GB Type Approval. Compliance Engineers are an essential part of this evolution. Your purpose is to undertake audits of automotive manufacturers’ production facilities and determine compliance against Type Approval requirements. You will have the privilege of working directly with global manufacturers, getting to see their production sites around the world first-hand.
About Us
Our work is focused on improving vehicle safety and environmental protection by providing robust testing and certification to national and internationally recognised standards. We are a part of the Department for Transport as the designated UK Vehicle Type Approval Authority. With more than 40 years’ experience, we have become one of the largest and well-respected approval bodies in the world. This position has been built on a reputation for technical expertise and quality, which is at the heart of everything we do, and you could be an important part of that.
As part of a dedicated and specialist team, you will travel to manufacturing facilities of all sizes around the world assessing manufacturers’ quality systems and working practices to verify that the procedures they have in place ensure conformity of their production. As activities undertaken by the Conformity of Production department are accredited by UKAS to ISO 17021-1:2015, you will also become part of a highly specialist management systems certification body.
First-hand, you will gain an insight into the manufacturing of mainstream and specialist vehicles and components for all vehicle manufacturers who sell into the UK. This work will expose you to the latest vehicle technology, often before it reaches the market, along with witnessing more traditional methods of vehicle manufacture.
Working in a fast-paced environment, with our UK and overseas staff and manufacturers, your days will be varied, engaging with numerous stakeholders. You will need to be an effective communicator, with excellent customer service skills and have a forward-thinking attitude when prioritising tasks and dealing with conflicting priorities.
This role is a fantastic opportunity to join the Agency and work in the automotive industry. Your contributions will be of direct value to our team and the wider Agency, helping us to maintain our reputation with global customers and stakeholders.
There is an expectation to have regular week-based travel in the UK and be able to travel overseas; including stays of up to 4-weeks, several times per year if required.
