We have an exciting opportunity within East Sussex Health Care NHS Trust (ESHT) for the position of full-time apprentice Physiotherapists in MSK (Musculoskeletal)
The post holder will be employed for the period of the apprenticeship with East Sussex Health Care Trust (ESHT) and will undertake study at University of Brighton (UoB) starting in September 2025. A successful application for the UoB apprenticeship depends on both success in applying for this post and subsequent success in your university application.Should you not be successful in your university application, the offer of this post would be withdrawn.
This is a developmental role. You will work towards successful completion of a BSc degree in Physiotherapy and recognition by the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) as an AHP Physiotherapist. You will develop and maintain knowledge, skills and competencies related to the role of Physiotherapist within ESHT and through completion of the physiotherapy training programme at the UoB. This will include working in acute, intermediate care and community care settings and delivering direct person-centred care. As part of the degree, you will complete placements in clinical areas across ESHT teams and sites. At least 1 placement will need to be with an employer outside of ESHT. Travel costs related to the course will need to be met by the apprentice as this is a paid post and the course is otherwise fully funded for you.
The apprentice physiotherapy programme combines and integrates both academic and work-based learning. As an apprentice physiotherapistyou will be part of a friendly, professional team, and will be fully supported to develop your professional skills.You will be based within East Sussex Healthcare Trust working in hospital and community settings as a physiotherapy assistant in order that you gain a wide appreciation of many health and care contexts to enable you to fulfil all the requirements of the BSc Physiotherapy programme.

As an apprentice you will be working in ESHT full-time and will be released 2 days a week (during term time) to undertake study at the University of Brighton, where you will work alongside other students who are also undertaking the BSc in Physiotherapy.
Where the role is based in community, car driving will be essential. Towards the end of the apprenticeship, you will be supported (subject to you meeting our behavior standards, performance expectations and your apprenticeship), to apply for permanent vacancies within the Trust. If you withdraw from the apprenticeship course before its completion, your post may be at risk.

Supervision, support and role development will be integral to these unique posts, ensuring a framework of competencies achieved through a mix of work-based, assessment and treatment opportunities, to meet the needs of patients in both healthcare and leisure access environments. IT skills to facilitate data collection and presentation are therefore considered to be invaluable for this role.
The ideal applicants will have a background minimum of 2 years work experience at B3. GCSE Maths and English Grade C or above is part of the essential criteria for this role. The successful candidates will need to work flexibly, be able to travel independently, and be able to communicate well in order to give clear and concise instructions to patients who often have complex needs.
