Our website is the first port of call for researchers interested in accessing UK Biobank, participants keen to find out about the impact their data is having on research, and broader audiences interested in UK Biobanks story.
We are carrying out a website redesign process at the moment. In this new role, you will be responsible for planning, creating and editing web content for UK Biobanks website, continuously improving our content using analytics and user research, and championing web best practice across the organisation. The key responsibilities are: Planning, creating and editing web content, particularly written content, for UK Biobanks website to engage and inform our key audiences
Playing a significant role in building content for a website redesign project due to go live in early 2025
Taking a lead on ensuring that web content is well designed, accessible, search engine-optimised and able to meet user needs
Establishing and implementing a system for content review and assessment to ensure that content is continuously refined and improved
Setting clear goals and using metrics, user research and testing to optimise web content, and help embed an evidence-based culture in the team
Providing information and advice to colleagues about web best practice, including developing and maintaining documentation and delivering training
Championing the use of simple, clear language and ensure that content is in the appropriate tone of voice
Generating ideas for new content and formats
Contributing to the teams content ideation and planning activity/calendar
Working hours are 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with expected 2 days per week in the office. Located in Greater Manchester (initially based in Stockport with a move to Manchester Science Park mid to late 2026) or central London. Is this 'you'? Reporting to the Head of Digital Communications, you will have experience of; Delivering excellent digital copywriting, editing and content designs
Using analytics tools, ideally GA4 and Google Tag Manager, to gain insights and adapt content accordingly
Demonstrating best practice in digital engagement, including SEO and accessibility
Writing in plain English and transforming complex information into easy-to-understand content
Using web content management systems in a large organisation
Producing documentation and delivering training/leading workshops
Desirables Experience of working on website redesign projects
Experience of undertaking user research and/or user testing
Experience of working in a science/research organisation and/or a scientific background
Driving sustained engagement amongst technically minded audiences (such as research scientists)
