Overview
We are working exclusively with a progressive and fast-growing legal services firm, currently looking to appoint a Head of Risk and Compliance at executive level. This is a key strategic hire for the business, ideal for a senior legal professional with a background in Conveyancing and a strong focus on quality, compliance, and risk management.
With over 100, the firm is operating at scale completing over 1000 transactions per month. Their flexible, forward-thinking culture supports remote and hybrid working but also values in-person collaboration.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with deep operational knowledge of volume conveyancing and remortgages who is looking to step into a non-fee earning, commercially strategic role.
The Role
This is a senior appointment that will play a crucial role in shaping the firms approach to quality and compliance. The successful candidate will lead efforts to analyse historic claims, identify root causes of issues, and embed smarter working practices and risk mitigation strategies.
You will be joining a team where compliance is already supported day-to-day by a junior solicitor. Your focus will be more strategic and analytical assessing trends, feeding back improvements to the wider business, and ultimately helping to bring monthly compensation payouts down.
Key Responsibilities
1. Take ownership of quality and risk across the firm, focusing on high-level analysis and continuous improvement
2. Analyse previous claims and complaints to identify key trends, process failures, and compliance gaps
3. Work with department heads to implement training, improve procedures, and embed accountability across teams
4. Attend board meetings and contribute to high-level commercial and operational decisions
5. Proactively support the firm in reducing compensation and ensuring client satisfaction
6. Act as a trusted advisor on SRA compliance, risk appetite, and internal governance
The Ideal Candidate
7. Someone who has been on the front line a former case handler or team leader who truly understands the operational pressures
8. Strong understanding of SRA compliance and legal regulatory frameworks
9. Commercially astute able to balance quality with efficiency
10. Analytical mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving
