Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Vascular department for a Surgical Care Practitioner (SCP). Gloucestershire and Swindon Vascular Network operate a 'hub and spoke' approach, with the Vascular in-patient service being at the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital (GRH), the 'hub' and the spokes offering services at Cheltenham General Hospital (CGH) and Great Western Hospital (GWH). The post holder will be based at GRH with the existing Vascular SCP team, however, as part of the role there is a requirement to travel to CGH and at times GWH or other community hospitals within Gloucestershire. The SCPs are part of the Vascular surgical team, acting as first or second assistant, assisting with open, endovascular and hybrid Vascular procedures. The SCP liaises with the pre-operative, theatre and post operative ward teams to ensure safety and continuity of care. Performing pre-operative visits to the patient explaining the procedure and gaining written consent.With support partake and assist with venous intervention. You will have the opportunity to use advanced practice skills in Vascular/ SCP clinics for complex patient group Main duties of the job The post holder is expected to demonstrate an advanced degree of knowledge, skill, manual dexterity and understanding in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, providing a competent and efficient service. To act as a first or second assistant in the operating theatre. Perform pre and post operative visits, consent patients, open and close wounds, assist with haemostasis. Undertake specific surgical interventions as per agreed competency levels. Work under indirect supervision, examining and assessing peripheral vascular disease, making decisions about treatment, investigations and admission, follow up and discharge, referring on to vascular consultant colleagues when reached limit of own expertise. Participate in SCP/vascular clinics. Collation of data on National Vascular Register, Mortality and Morbidity Contribute to specialist area of research, clinical governance and local and national audits.
