Summary:
The Coach fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by developing, initiating, and administering the program in a particular sport which adequately prepares the student athlete for interscholastic competition. The Coach is recommended to the principal by the athletic director, hired by the principal, and evaluated in consultation with the athletic director.
Position Responsibilities:
1. Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
2. Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
3. Supports and adheres to the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees and policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese
4. Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
Instruction
5. Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport assigned.
6. Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
7. Work with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes.
Program Management
8. Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis.
9. Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
10. Keep informed of and ensure compliance with all rules.
11. Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
12. Work with athletic director to schedule competitions and coordinate arrangements
13. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of coaching program and make changes based on findings.
Student Management
14. Accompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports including out-of-town trips.
15. Instruct and advise students on regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.
16. Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
17. Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
Communication
18. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
Administration
19. Assist in selection of equipment and instructional materials.
20. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
21. Maintain a current inventory of all fixed assets within program.
22. Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all campus athletic equipment.
23. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
24. High school diploma or equivalent
Experience
25. Minimum of 4 years’ experience Previous coaching and/or playing experience
License and Credentials
26. Reliable transportation
27. Valid driver license
28. Valid vehicle insurance
29. Current CPR certification and First Aid training, or the ability to obtain such upon hiring
