General Ledger Accounting Manager

Salary circa £49,000
We have an exciting new opportunity in the Aviva Norwich office for an experienced accounting professional to join our team as a General Ledger Accounting and Financial Control Manager. This is great for someone who wants to gain experience in supporting the delivery of monthly accounting and financial control for our General Insurance market, as well as helping to onboard business and project led change into the Finance team. You will become a subject matter expert responsible for key accounting deliveries. You will work with other SMEs in the team and support our team people managers in the delivery of the financial month-end.
A bit about the job:
The role will be part of the UK&I General Insurance General Ledger Accounting Control & Operations team whose main purpose is to deliver the month-end close for UKGI and Ireland GI while owning areas of the balance sheet and operating the controls. This subject matter expert role is primarily aligned to the UKGI side of the business but may also support Ireland.
The post-holder will manage the delivery of certain key month-end financial processes while ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the monthly general ledger and robust financial control. The role will require close working with other managers in the team. You will be required to gain an understanding of post-IFRS17 insurance accounting, manage workload and priorities, have a good understanding of the general ledger and of data flows into accounting entries, conduct analytical review of the balance sheet, and help to impact assess and embed business and project led change into the team.
Key Responsibilities:
* Ownership of bad debt provisioning and IFRS17-specific accounting adjustments including the UK premium cash model and from PAA to GMM restatement.
* Attend governance meetings, owning actions and queries assigned to you and ensuring they are dealt with in a timely manner; performing balance sheet analytical reviews and resolving balance sheet reconciliation queries.
* Owning key controls and ensuring all risks and issues are managed and captured across the team and adhering to risk and governance minimum standards.
* Work closely with internal audit teams, and proactively support the external auditing process as well as with key stakeholders including our financial reporting, business change and Actuarial teams.
* Work with and support other SMEs in the team with internal reinsurance arrangements, legal entity reporting, etc. and be one of the first points of contact for business and project led change initiatives, assessing their potential impact on Finance, and helping to embed changes within the team.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
* Qualified accountant or suitable financial experience.
* Experience of operating strong financial control.
* Experience of embedding change would be beneficial.
* Good analytical skills with a curiosity mindset.
* A team player with strong stakeholder relationship and communication skills.
