Job Overview:
The CTO will be responsible for leading the company's technology strategy and innovation roadmap, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory frameworks. As a key member of the executive team, the CTO will manage the development and implementation of advanced defence technologies, ensuring they meet the highest standards of performance, security, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
* Strategic Leadership: Define and lead the technology strategy, ensuring it aligns with the company’s overall mission and business goals. Develop a forward-thinking roadmap that anticipates future defence industry trends and technological advancements.
* Innovation and R&D: Oversee the company’s research and development (R&D) initiatives, ensuring the delivery of cutting-edge technologies that meet the needs of military and government clients. Identify and exploit new opportunities for innovation and growth.
* Security and Compliance: Ensure that all technology initiatives comply with the necessary legal and security requirements, including SC clearance protocols, MOD regulations, and relevant data protection laws.
* Collaboration & Partnerships: Foster relationships with external partners, including government agencies, defence contractors, research institutions, and international stakeholders to enhance innovation and technological collaboration.
* Technology Implementation: Oversee the development and deployment of advanced defence systems, cybersecurity solutions, AI technologies, and other mission-critical systems. Ensure that all technology solutions are scalable, secure, and capable of delivering superior performance under high-stress conditions.
* Team Leadership & Development: Build and lead a high-performing technology and innovation team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Mentor and develop key talent within the organisation.
* Risk Management: Identify potential technology risks and implement robust strategies for mitigating them, particularly in areas of cybersecurity, system integrity, and operational resilience.
* Budget Management: Develop and manage the technology department’s budget, ensuring cost-effective investments in R&D, IT infrastructure, and innovation projects.
Key Skills & Experience:
* Proven experience in a senior technology leadership role within the defence, aerospace, or security sectors.
* In-depth knowledge of defence systems, cybersecurity, and related technologies, including AI, machine learning, advanced communication systems, and mission-critical software.
* Strong understanding of UK MOD requirements, security protocols, and the regulatory landscape.
* Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale R&D projects from concept to deployment.
* Ability to collaborate with government bodies and military clients, with a focus on delivering secure and high-performance solutions.
* Excellent leadership and team development skills, with the ability to inspire and guide cross-functional teams.
* Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business strategies.
* Strong understanding of risk management and security frameworks.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (Master's or PhD preferred).
* Proven experience in leading technology functions in highly regulated sectors, preferably defence.
* SC Clearance is essential, and the candidate must be eligible for or already hold the required level of security clearance.
* Membership in relevant professional bodies or industry certifications (e.g., Chartered Engineer, Certified Information Systems Security Professional, etc.) is advantageous.
