Mental Health Inpatient Occupational Therapist

This is an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to work within the West Dorset Occupational Therapy Team on Melstock ward (older persons mental health). You will receive regular supervision, participate in a peer support network, have the opportunity for flexible working, receive ongoing learning and development, and regular CPD opportunities.
The role involves providing assessment and intervention for older adults with a mental health condition, supporting and assisting them in their recovery. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team and be an integral part of the delivery of patient care and service development.
You will be required to undertake a Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression course. It is a condition of your employment that you successfully complete all aspects of this course; if this is not achieved you will not be able to commence working in the post.
This is a fixed term role and for those with current NHS service, the role will be offered on a secondment basis only. Please obtain permission to be released on a secondment before submitting an application.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of this job are Occupational Therapy assessment, intervention, and evaluation of people when they are in an acute stage of mental illness. Other duties include working within an MDT, liaising with external services, communicating with family members, involvement in quality improvement, attending professional meetings, guiding support workers, and keeping training and CPD up to date for self and others.
Part-time hours will be considered up to 32 hours a week.

Qualifications
* Degree/ Diploma in Occupational Therapy
* Registration with Health Professions Council
* PMVA and Breakaway Training
* Membership of Professional Body
* Membership of Specialist Section of RCOT
Experience
* Experience with functional assessments and activity analysis
* Experience of group work
* Documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development
* Experience of supporting people with mental health problems
Knowledge
* Knowledge of the Model of Human Occupation
* Ability to apply the Occupational Therapy process
* Health and Safety knowledge, awareness of risk
* Knowledge of MHA (1983)
Skills
* Ability to manage and prioritise own case load
* Basic ICT skills
* Effective written and oral communication skills
