North Bristol NHS Trust
Clinical Research Fellow (ST1 - 5 level) Infection and Vaccine
North Bristol NHS Trust (NB) and University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS FT (UHBW) work in partnership delivering a wide range of vaccine and infection-related studies. Starting with early trials of candidate Covid-19 vaccines, subsequently approved for use, the team now delivers a wide range of vaccine studies and other clinical trials for both inpatients and in the community. They work closely with other hospitals in the West of England with the support of the local Clinical Research Network.
Main duties of the job
Under the supervision of Dr Rajeka Lazarus and Dr Ed Moran, the post holder will work with the research nursing team and be responsible for day-to-day management of trials. This will include research governance, review of study participants, and setting up new trials. During working hours, the post-holder will answer the participant medical help-line. This will be in rotation with the research fellow based at UHBW.
Whilst the primary responsibility of the role is enabling the delivery of multi-centre academic and commercial studies, post holders with the appropriate experience and enthusiasm will be supported in developing an independent project alongside this - for example literature or systematic reviews, small research projects, clinical experience, undergraduate teaching, etc.
Candidates should have at least 3 years postgraduate experience and the role is particularly suited to those exploring a career in academic clinical infection. They will be supported in developing their CV with the aim of preparing for applications to Academic Clinical Fellow roles or Research Training Fellowships.
Job responsibilities
The post holder will provide cross-cover for their counterpart at UHBW for annual/study leave as well as to release time for their research projects or clinical experience. It is anticipated the post holder will spend 20% of their time on study/annual leave, 70-80% of time managing vaccine studies, and up to 10% of their working time on a vaccine research-related project. There may be an opportunity to use the project to apply for higher research funding for the appropriate applicant.
