The Role
As a Lead HGV Class 2 / Category C Driver at Clayton Glass, you will play a key role in delivering large glass products to clients and work sites. Your responsibilities will include safe transportation, client interaction, and ensuring each delivery meets our high standards. Representing Clayton Glass on every delivery, you will have a direct impact on client satisfaction and uphold our commitment to excellence.
Additionally, you will take the lead in unloading and loading vehicles, ensuring all deliveries are handled efficiently and safely. You will also be responsible for processing delivery notes, ensuring they are distributed in accordance with load planning, collating delivery notes, and ensuring their return to our site in Huthwaite.
This role requires a valid FLT licence, as well as office skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Office.
Key Responsibilities:
* Safe and Timely Delivery: Operate an HGV Class 2 / Category C vehicle to transport glass products, using proper handling techniques to ensure goods are delivered without damage.
* Customer Interaction: Act as a professional, friendly face of Clayton Glass, building positive relationships with clients and suppliers.
* Compliance with Safety Standards: Adhere to road safety regulations, including Drivers’ Hours Regulations, vehicle weight restrictions, and health and safety practices.
* Vehicle Maintenance: Conduct pre- and post-trip checks on the HGV, reporting any maintenance needs to keep the vehicle in top condition.
* Documentation: Ensure that delivery paperwork is accurate, logging any issues encountered and communicating with the transport team.
* Lead Unloading and Loading: Take responsibility for unloading and loading vehicles to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
* Process and Distribute Delivery Notes: Ensure delivery notes are processed and distributed in line with load planning.
* Collate and Return Delivery Notes: Ensure all delivery notes are collated and returned to our site in Huthwaite.
* Utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, and Office: Performing administrative tasks related to deliveries.
* Work collaboration: Maintain smooth logistics operations with our warehouse and transport teams.
* Class 2 / Category C Licence: A clean Class 2 / Category C licence, essential for operating our vehicles safely and in compliance with regulations.
* Previous experience in a similar ‘lead’ HGV driving role.
* Relevant Certification: Must possess relevant CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) and Digital Tachograph cards, required for professional HGV driving.
* Valid FLT Licence.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Office.
* Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while managing time effectively.
* Experience handling delivery notes and load planning documentation.
Desirable (Non-Essential) Criteria:
* Previous experience, particularly in glass or fragile product transportation, is an advantage.
* Experience working in a logistics, transport, or warehouse environment.
