We are seeking an Assistant Transport Strategy Officer who is passionate about building their skills and knowledge and putting them into practical effect.
Your Role
As an Assistant Transport Strategy Officer in the Strategic Planning Team as part of our Transport Strategy Directorate, you will be involved in a range of exciting projects to help us to deliver our Greater Manchester Transport Strategy 2040 (see ). You will support how our plans for transport, streets and places can respond effectively to the opportunities presented by Greater Manchester’s ambitious plans for economic prosperity, carbon neutrality and further devolved powers.
You will:
* Have the opportunity to help develop and shape future sustainable transport interventions across the city region, focusing on creating a transport system that improves people's lives and helps create great places.
* Gather evidence to help us understand how travel trends may be changing, objectively analyse a wide range of data sources, and produce and present succinct summaries.
* Contribute to sound strategic planning and robust transport business cases for schemes, and support handover to delivery teams for execution and assist in sponsoring them to ensure benefits are realised.
* Embrace collaborative working with stakeholders from across the GM community.
* Ensure that the day-to-day management of your area of responsibility is all in order, participate in continuous improvement and contribute to a positive, supportive team culture that results in high performance.
This is hybrid role where you will be expected to work in the office at least 2 days per week.

Who are we?
The Strategic Planning team lead the coordination and development of GM’s Local Transport Plan (GMTS 2040). We:
* Integrate transport strategy work with wider strategic plans, linked to growth locations, land use development, regeneration, and planning policy.
* Define and develop GM’s transport investment priorities, with a streets and bus focus.
* Achieve this through close working with other TfGM teams, GM Local Authorities, GMCA and partners and stakeholders.

* Have an active interest in transport planning, placemaking and people, and have a good knowledge of urban transit modes and interfaces with local and national government policies and strategies.
* Be a strong team player (with an equal ability to work effectively on your own initiative and without close supervision), you’ll have a track record of building productive working relationships and partnerships with a variety of stakeholders.
* Be educated to degree level in a relevant discipline (including but not limited to Transport Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Engineering, Geography etc.) or alternatively be able to demonstrate significant, highly relevant, equivalent experience.
* Be enthusiastic and adaptable, with strong analytical and research skills, and excellent written, verbal and graphic communication.
* Some experience in the use of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and skills in software including Adobe InDesign, Photoshop & Illustrator would be valuable, but this is not essential.

The role is a permanent position with a salary of £29,881 - £38,723 per annum depending on skills and experience, you will be joining a well-established, supportive service area and directorate, across TfGM, and with wider partners that will provide you with opportunities to further develop your skills and experience. We work with a high-profile agenda of developing the GM Local Transport Plan 2040, Growth Locations and Streets for All schemes.
