Grounds & Facilities Manager
Craigclowan is the only independent school in Perth, located on a beautiful campus on the outskirts of the Fair City, perfectly placed to access the road network from all directions. Line Management
Reports to: Operations Manager
Line manages: Grounds & Maintenance p/t & casual Staff
Works with (based at Glenalmond College): Operations Manager, Facilities Manager (Hard), Facilities Manager (Soft), Facilities Manager (H&S), Transport Manager, Head of Grounds, Facilities Administrator.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
1. Maintaining the lawns, garden areas, playing fields, astroturf, and hard court areas to a high standard. Specifically:
2. Grass cutting
3. Hedge trimming
4. Shrub pruning
5. Weeding and clearance of leaves
6. Maintenance of artificial/synthetic playing areas.
7. Assisting in the marking out of pitches for various sporting events, the erection, and dismantling of rugby poles, tennis nets, and hockey goals.
8. Liaison with the appropriate sports staff to ensure sports pitches and equipment availability.
9. Competent and safe use of the school tractor and all other mechanical equipment.
10. Ensuring that all ground equipment is maintained to a safe and serviceable condition and workshop areas are kept clean and tidy.
11. Manage and maintain all Health & Safety requirements including adherence to, and where required production of, appropriate Risk Assessments and safe systems of working in line with H&S regulations and ensure all work on site is carried out safely.
12. Possess a sound understanding of legislation relating to chemicals and dangerous substances (COSHH).
13. Keeping the facilities department and surrounding area tidy and free from litter.
14. General carpentry, plumbing, and other maintenance tasks across the school estate.
15. Overseeing contractors on site and managing any additional temporary employees as required during peak times.
16. Clearing ice and snow when necessary.
17. Driving the School minibuses. A full UK driving license (with category D1) will be required.
18. Assisting with logistical support for all school events
Security
19. Locking /unlocking all School buildings daily, checking the security of the buildings, CCTV, access to fire doors, water ingress, and/or other damage.
20. Check the security of buildings daily and after external lettings as required.
21. Monitor the use of the School grounds and buildings by external parties.
22. Be the first point of contact for alarm/fire alarm call-outs in conjunction with the Head.
Buildings
23. Carry out daily, weekly, and monthly fire checks.
24. Maintenance of sanitary facilities.
25. Order heating oil ensuring that an adequate supply is maintained – level 3 on gauge.
26. Monitor the collection of refuse from the School and remove cardboard etc as required.
27. Carry out general maintenance tasks that are within capabilities e.g. changing light fittings, replacing fuses.
28. Move furniture/equipment as required.
29. Check and clear out gutters as required.
30. Carry out inspection of boilers/heating systems and controls.
Grounds
31. Ensure the grounds maintenance program is carried out throughout the year.
32. To oversee tree work and the maintenance of hedgerows, fences, drains, and weed killing.
33. Prepare and mark all sports fields and pitches, erecting and dismantling rugby posts/poles/nets, etc. as required by the timetable.
34. Regular maintenance of Astro and spot check of dry ski slope areas.
35. Ensure that bins in the playground and on sports fields are emptied as required.
36. Maintain pedestrian and vehicular access to all School buildings during winter conditions, ordering salt as required and authorised.
37. Maintain the gardens, mowing and edging lawns, weeding flower beds, strimming and pruning trees as required.
38. Traffic control and parking.
Equipment
39. Arrange maintenance and annual service of all equipment.
40. Store equipment in a tidy and safe manner.
Health and Safety
41. Follow the guidance given by the Facilities Manager (H&S).
42. Be responsible for the safe storage of all chemicals, poisons, fuels, oils, and other potentially hazardous substances following guidance and Health and Safety legislation.
Wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) as appropriate
43. Follow safe systems of work
44. Store equipment safely and report any faulty equipment as soon as practicable to the Operations Manager
45. Comply with the individual responsibilities imposed by the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations and cooperate with management to promote a positive attitude towards Health and Safety at work taking all reasonably practicable steps to prevent personal injury or injury to others.

Person requirement
46. A versatile, resourceful, and energetic self-motivator with excellent communication skills.
47. Previous experience in grounds and maintenance, preferably within the Education sector.
48. Have a trade background or good practical core skills together with previous maintenance experience.
49. Have a flexible outlook towards hours worked (some out-of-hours working may be required).
50. Computer literate with experience of MS Office & Google.
51. Have a working knowledge of current Health and Safety practices.
Hours of Work
52. This is a full-time, permanent position with a working pattern of -, equating to 40 hours per week
53. Flexibility is required to cover certain events and commercial business at different times throughout the year, particularly during school holiday periods.
Leave Entitlement
54. 30 days holiday plus 10 public holidays.
Salary Scale
55. £30,.00, plus on-site Accommodation, valued at c. £14, p/a.
