Application Support Job Description
As an Application Support analyst you will be responsible for maintaining a stack of business critical applications that include both COTS products and internally developed solutions. You will ensure that services are running seamlessly and enabling users to get on with their daily business.
As part of the Application Support team, you will monitor applications and services via a service management tool, reacting to incidents and service requests to agreed SLAs. If there is a problem, commonly known as an incident, the App Support Analyst will be expected to diagnose the issue and resolve it as soon as possible.
Roles and Responsibilities of an Application Support Analyst
Applications that the analyst will be responsible for will be business critical software across many business directorates, including, Engineering, Finance and payroll
The Application Support Analyst will be expected to work through finding the root cause of the issue and recommend what should be done in order to avoid this happening again. These recommendations could cover many things, such as process changes, improved monitoring, new errors, user training or changes to the app’s code.
The application specialist will also be expected to cover holiday support for other teams members ensuring services don’t stop and software is supported to ensure that the business can operate as expected.

The key skill when working within Application Support is communication. Whether this is responding to user calls, emails or face-to-face enquiries, or contributing to the design and implementation of new systems.
