Placement details: An exciting opportunity for a sandwich year university student has arisen at Exeter City Football Club, who require a full-time (40 hours per week) Medical Intern. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to be an integral part of a performance team at a professional football club, and gain experience in the practical application of theoretical knowledge with elite football players. An effective Medical programme has been developed and the successful applicant will obtain extensive experience of its planning and delivery under the supervision of the First Team Physiotherapist. The successful applicant will form part of a multi-disciplinary team with the existing first team sport science, medical and coaching staff to optimise physical performance and minimise the risk of injury to all first team players. This may also include opportunities to gain experience within our Academy. Work will take place at the Cliff Hill Training Ground (Sidmouth Road, Clyst St. Mary, Exeter, EX5 1DP) for all training days. Work will also take place at St James Park, Stadium Way, Exeter, EX4 6PX) for home games, and may also include travel to away games at various locations. Key responsibilities: Assist with player injury assessment and diagnosis. Assist with the delivery of sports therapy duties. Assist with the delivery and design of pitch-based rehabilitation sessions. Assist with data collection, analysis and reporting. Assist with various performance, screening and anthropometric testing procedures Work alongside sport science to create a collaborative approach to achieving injury prevention. Training and match day support. Fulfil any other relevant duties as directed by the medical, sport science and coaching staff. What can we provide? A formalised learning placement within a professional football club in collaboration with degree programmes. Regular internal CPD and a minimum of 1x external CPD relevant to the role. A stipend of £8,000 for the placement year. Experience working within an MDT. Opportunities to lead within areas of the department and a true hands-on experience of what working in a professional football club will be like. About The Candidate Person requirements: (E) Essential or (D) Desirable Enhanced FA CRB/DBS check (E) – can be applied for through ECFC if you don’t have one already. Enrolled on a medical or sports science-based degree/module at the University that includes an integrated placement (E). An interest in working with and developing athletes (E). An interest in football (D). Experience in providing medical or sports science support to athletes (D). Experience in coaching (D).
