This role forms a key part of the Council's Community Safety Team and will be integral to taking forward and coordinating council and partnership activity to tackle this high priority issue. This is an exciting time to join the team and to support and influence the direction of this work. This will include the development and implementation of Walsall’s Domestic Abuse Strategy and associated Delivery Plan, the development of a coordinated community/whole system Response to Domestic Abuse and the commissioning of specialist Domestic Abuse services and other activity.
Walsall has a developing Domestic Abuse Partnership with strong multi-agency commitment. The Domestic Abuse Coordinator will play a central role in the development of this work and the delivery of Walsall’s ongoing response to this important issue. In doing so they will help protect the residents and communities of Walsall whilst ensuring as a borough we meet our statutory requirements.
The role and work will support the Council’s Resilient Communities model, which is a strength-based approach that, where appropriate, utilises individuals and communities to support themselves and underpins that support with integrated services and integrated enforcement.
The post holder will be responsible for:
1. Ensuring the Council meets its statutory and key delivery responsibilities in relation to community safety and in particular domestic abuse, including those under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 and Domestic Abuse Act 2021.
2. Facilitating the strategic development of Domestic Abuse Services and Domestic Abuse Policy for Walsall Council and Safer Walsall Partnership.
3. Ensuring Domestic Abuse Services and support are effective in Walsall, utilising data to support performance management and to drive service delivery.
4. Leading/supporting the development and implementation of Domestic Abuse Needs Assessment and its Recommendations, Workplace Policy, and the Safer Walsall Domestic Abuse Strategy and associated Delivery Plan.
5. Supporting the commission of specialist service provision to meet the needs of the diverse communities of Walsall and the management of associated contracts/performance.
6. Providing specialist advice, support, and training to a range of audiences on Domestic Abuse, including advising, supporting, and facilitating Walsall’s Domestic Abuse Partnership Board and associated delivery groups.
Applicants will have experience of working in a partnership environment and have extensive knowledge and experience of domestic abuse practice and legislation. They will also have experience of policy and strategy development, supporting or leading commissioning activity, and a degree or relevant professional or vocational qualification or relevant experience.
For this role, the successful candidates must undergo a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check. BPSS is the minimum standard to ensure the identity and integrity of an employee who has access to official information using secure networks linking central government and local authorities.
