The Waiting List Support Service aims to offer a single point of contact for patients awaiting treatment. The service keeps patients regularly informed of waiting times and offers advice on how they can prepare for surgery and optimise their health whilst waiting.
The 3P's Waiting Well Policy launched by Welsh Government in September 2023 will ensure that support and information is easily accessible to those waiting and this role as a Registered Nurse is vital to support a meaningful offer and to ensure that we minimise the risk of harm to patients.
Main duties of the job
As a Registered Nurse within the service, the successful candidate will contribute to the development of the service and offer support to patients enabling them to keep well while they wait for treatment. This will include:
* Keeping patients regularly informed of their current expected wait
* Offering a single point of contact should patients need to contact us
* Providing advice on self-management options whilst waiting
* Offering advice on what to do if their symptoms deteriorate
* Establishing a systematic approach to measuring clinical risk and using this to inform waiting list prioritization
* Offering alternative treatment options if appropriate
* Incorporating review and checking of patient consent
The successful candidate will have significant clinical experience working within a multi-disciplinary team across different clinical specialties/conditions within the integrated care system.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post. English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
