Position: Senior Quantity Surveyor
Location: Reading with sites across the Thames Valley
Salary: 60-75k neg (DOE), car allowance and excellent benefits package
Our Client: Is a leading UK building, infrastructure, engineering and fit-out company. They deliver vital projects across a range of sectors including health, education, highways, justice, defence, aviation, water and environment. They are the primary non-infrastructure design and construct partner for Thames Water in the Thames Valley area delivering asset improvements that will further improve the environment and the quality of drinking water.
The Role: Ensure the successful financial delivery and completion of projects, protecting the exposure of the Company to financial risks, together with adherence to the commercial procedures of the Business. Responsible for the commercial management of a large project or on several smaller projects.
Responsibilities:
1. Co-ordinating with, reporting to and implementing the directives of the Regional Director/Manager and the Commercial Manager whilst being supported by a Managing Quantity Surveyor.
2. Ensuring the timely submission of all relevant data required to monitor and analyse individual contract performance on a monthly and quarterly basis thereafter.
3. Liaising with Project Managers daily for commercial administration of contracts to ensure the financial success of construction operations.
4. Preparing accurate draft sub-contracts and/or approving such drafts as prepared by the Commercial Team within the Region.
5. Ensuring consultation with contracts management that all necessary notices and submissions required by the various forms of contract are given in a timely manner.
6. Ensuring that main contract payment applications contain all necessary admeasure/additional cost claims and that the timely submission of detailed claims and final accounts is achieved.
7. Assisting Project Manager in the administration of sub-contractor performance to ensure the economic and timely completion of all sub-contractor liabilities.
8. Ensuring prompt and regular submission of main contract payment applications and subsequent cash collection together with the preparation of sub-contractor payments.
9. Involvement in dispute avoidance/resolution.
10. Responsible for managing meetings.
Experience:
1. Sound & comprehensive understanding of construction industry.
2. Proficient knowledge of measurement and valuation.
3. Good knowledge of standard forms of contract.
4. Ability to negotiate with clients/sub-contractors and draft sub contracts.
5. Knowledge of CIS.
6. Ability to produce accurate monthly cost and value reports and outturn financial forecasts.
7. Ability to work in a team environment.
8. Awareness of dispute procedures and exposure to resolving disputes.
9. Experience of undertaking risk assessments and valuation of them in conjunction with other project team members.
10. Extensive experience of working on live projects and final accounts.
11. Experience of value engineering.
12. Successfully completed several final accounts.
13. Experience of procuring major works subcontracts.
14. Professional membership of recognised institute e.g. RICS (desirable).
15. Proficient in the use of Microsoft packages e.g. Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
16. Experience of working in the water industry desirable.
17. Demonstrate knowledge of previously working with CEMAR and COINS (desirable).
