We have a rare opportunity to recruit a motivated and dynamic clinical lead occupational therapist to join our Children’s Therapy department. The team consists of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, and therapy assistants. We have team bases in both Halifax and Huddersfield.
The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and improving our service for the benefit of children and their families. You will demonstrate the ability to lead, motivate and inspire others and have excellent communication, prioritization, and organizational skills.
You will provide Occupational therapy assessment, treatment, and advice, working in a variety of settings with children of all ages. We have excellent links with schools, early years settings, and social care, and you will become part of the wider team supporting children and their families.

Main duties of the job
1. To act as the clinical lead for the Occupational Therapy service for children with physical difficulties and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEN), advancing clinical practice in this area.
2. To manage own highly specialist caseload.
3. To work autonomously within Trust policies and professional practice, maintaining accurate and comprehensive records.
4. To perform highly specialist assessment and treatment of children and young people referred to the service.
5. To determine a clinical diagnosis, develop, deliver, implement, evaluate and modify individualized treatment programmes.
6. To educate and train Occupational therapists and healthcare/social services/education staff.
7. To assist the Team Leader in the daily operational management of the team.
8. To support and advise within the wider multi-agency team on service delivery.
9. To lead the OT team in delivering assessment and interventions for children in various settings.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical Duties
1. To work within the children’s therapy service, leading, coordinating and developing effective clinical interventions.
2. To manage autonomously a clinical workload of children at a highly specialist level.
3. To have highly specialist assessment and treatment skills.
4. To apply evidence-based knowledge within the specialist clinical area.
5. To act as a resource and provide advice for Occupational Therapists and other professionals.
6. To work collaboratively with education, health, and social care colleagues.
Professional Duties
1. To comply with and develop protocols, procedures, and guidelines.
2. To participate in governance initiatives, measuring and evaluating clinical practice.
3. To ensure specialized treatments offered are based on the best available clinical evidence.
4. To lead, develop, and actively undertake clinical audit.
Managerial Duties
1. To support and advise on the delivery of Children’s Therapy.
2. To assist in achieving service objectives.
3. To manage the performance of the occupational therapy team.
Training and Development Duties
1. To identify, develop, and evaluate a training programme.
2. To provide specialist supervision for therapists and assistants.
3. To participate in the Trust Personal Development Review process.
Person specification
QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING
1. Registered with HPC
2. Evidence of Postgraduate Training relevant to the post
3. Clinical Educator Training
4. Member of Professional Body
5. Studied at Masters level or equivalent
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE
1. Extensive experience of carrying out specialist assessments and interventions for children.
2. Evidence of up-to-date best practice in paediatrics.
3. Knowledge of relevant legislation and initiatives.
4. Previous experience of working at Band 6 level with children and young people.
COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIPS
1. Demonstrate excellent leadership skills.
2. Ability to communicate effectively with people with complex difficulties.
