We are currently seeking a professionally qualified, accredited Subject Librarian. As a key member of the Library & Learning Services Team, the Subject Librarian will lead on supporting the research and teaching/learning needs of staff and students for the School of Education and contribute to the management of Library & Learning Services. (This is a part-time 0.6, 12-month fixed term contract covering maternity leave)
About the Role
As a key member of the Library & Learning Services Team (LLS), you will lead on supporting the research and teaching/learning needs of staff and students for the two Schools and contribute to the management of LLS. Within this role, you will be actively contributing to the coordination and delivery of a comprehensive digital and information literacy skills program.
Collaborating closely with colleagues across LLS, you will play a key role in providing outstanding resources and services to our staff and students. Your responsibilities will include active participation in operational planning, policy development, and objective setting aligned with the LLS strategy.
Additionally, you will be responsible for managing the budget for allocated subject areas in liaison with the Subject Librarian team. Flexibility is essential, as the role may require standing in for other Librarians when needed.
About You
You will be a qualified chartered librarian with experience of working in an HE environment. You will have excellent communication skills with experience of building collaborative working relationships and be committed with a professional approach.
As a keen problem solver, you will be able to prioritise and work under pressure to strict deadlines. You will also be flexible and reliable, with a positive approach to change and development.
Additional Information
This is a part-time (0.6), fixed term role.
Salary: Grade 7, £22,799 to £25,579 per annum, pro-rata of £37,999 to £42,632 per annum

The post-holder may be required to contribute to a rota of evening and/or weekend duties. During which time they may be responsible for the delivery of the entire front-facing service.
On occasion, the post-holder may be required to work at another campus but would mainly be based at Newton Park.

To act as Subject Librarian for allocated subject areas and to contribute to the management of Library & Learning Services.
Main duties and responsibilities
To act as Subject Librarian
- To establish and maintain effective working relationships with academic staff and students within allocated subject areas
- To coordinate and deliver a programme of digital and information literacy skills teaching to students and staff within allocated subject areas
- To liaise with academic staff on the embedding of digital and information literacy skills teaching within the curriculum
- To undertake collection management, development and promotion within allocated subject areas
- To manage the LLS budget for resources within allocated subject areas
- To provide front-line enquiry services and tutorial help
- To participate in and contribute to the development of LLS strategy and policy with regard to digital and information literacy
- To establish and maintain effective working relationships and communication with the Subject Librarian team, the Collections and Customer Services teams and the Digital and Research team
To participate in the management of Library & Learning Services
- To participate in operational planning, policy development and objective setting in line with Library and Learning Services strategy
- To participate in and contribute to the Library Development Group, LLS Working Groups and School and Departmental Boards and other committees and meetings as appropriate
- To promote, protect and enhance the reputation of Library and Learning Services within the University and externally
- To stand in for other Subject Librarians and deputise for the Senior Librarian (Learning Services) as and when required
- To contribute to the quality of the service
- To maintain and develop knowledge and understanding of good professional practice
- To participate in local, regional and national professional activities, including committee membership
- To undertake continuing professional development
- To work within the University’s framework of agreed strategies and policies
- To undertake any other duties required which are within the scope and grade of the post
