About The Role
FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Senior Technical Engineer in London to work for our client within the Retail sector. This role is initially for 6 months and will be remote but you would be expected to be in the London office one day per month.
As a Senior Technical Engineer you will apply principles and operating frameworks to define and deliver through the use of technology to your team. The engineering technical competency framework and the community of practice enable this role to be part of the progressive community which contributes to this success. You will have the accountability to evidence the quality of work and the maturity of software excellence. This role requires you to build strong relationships with your team members and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
* Build strong relationships with your team members and peers within your tower.
* Technical mentorship of engineering, inside and outside your practice and team.
* Contribute to the technical standards and tests for the recruitment pipeline and iterate to maintain desired quality.
* Be the technical point of contact and expertise for risks and issues that affect the team and/or tower to allow impact to be measured and therefore prioritised.
* Guide engineering vision in your team. Ensure the adoption of our technical standards within your team and evidence them.
* Role-model best practices in engineering, for example: CI/CD, testing, monitoring and software development.
* Support the technical backbone for the organisation that supports growth, progression and technical delivery.
About You
Requirements
* Deep understanding and practical knowledge of Java.
* A developing understanding of the retail business and deep knowledge of the technology landscape, and how to maximise the value that solutions can and will add to the strategy.
* Expertise in engineering and architectural practices and principles.
* Proven technical experience in solution design and implementation, security, cloud and infrastructure and any relevant hardware.
* Knowledge of agile engineering practices.
* Sound judgement to make sometimes difficult and complex decisions at pace for your team.
* Experience of owning technical services and/or products including any relevant support and technical debt management.
* Experience in leading, motivating and directing engineering professionals and other technology teams.
Technical Requirement
* Web development paradigms.
* Multiple languages/frameworks including Java.
* Datastore technologies.
* Specific cloud/cloud native.
