About the Role
As a Principal Lecturer you will provide leadership in your specialist area and support the Course Leader. This role places students at the heart of our curriculum and teaching practices. As a university representative you will provide specialist teaching and tuition to students. Additionally, you will be responsible for ensuring high rates of student participation and engagement, maintaining educational quality and standards, successful student outcomes, and equality of access and participation.
What You'll Do:
• Teaching and Module Leadership: Teach students, lead modules, ensure effective delivery, and oversee quality assurance and enhancement.
• Digital Innovation: Lead on digital innovation for your discipline.
• Assessment and Support: Mark and moderate student work, support the Course Leader in assessment processes, and help students understand assessment requirements and academic integrity.
• Academic and Pastoral Guidance: Act as an Academic Advisor, providing academic and pastoral support and guidance to students.
• Student Learning Experience: Collaborate with the Course Leader to enhance the student learning experience, contribute to curriculum development, and advise on Lecturer recruitment and performance management.
• Student Recruitment and Representation: Support student recruitment efforts and represent your discipline in governance and quality platforms.
• Professional Development: Engage in professional development, scholarly activity, and research where appropriate.
• Collaboration: Work with the Deputy Provost and other members of the Provost's Office on strategic initiatives and collaborate with student experience departments to promote well-being and drive successful student outcomes.
What You'll Bring:
•Extensive experience and a significant profile within the relevant area of the creative industries.
•A good undergraduate degree or equivalent Higher Education or professional qualification, and a teaching qualification relevant to Higher Education or a Fellowship of Advance HE (or willingness to achieve this within the first two years of employment).
•Experience developing initiatives to enhance student participation and engagement, and supporting students academically and pastorally.
•Proven experience in effective and innovative curriculum and teaching development activities.
•Understanding of quality and standards in higher education and creative arts contexts.
•Demonstrable impact on improving teaching quality and successful student outcomes.
•Experience in implementing institutional policies and processes at the discipline level.
•Ability to use data to improve student outcomes.
•Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
