The Research Nurse is expected to support the management and leadership of the research nurses and administrative staff within the research team. S/he will have knowledge and understanding of the regulatory and legal frameworks related to the planning, undertaking, and closure of clinical research studies, including Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products, and therefore acts as a resource for staff, researchers, research participants, and patients. S/he will take a lead in ensuring the safe and effective delivery of a designated number of clinical research studies.
The Medical Research team leads on supporting Principal Investigators (PI) in the setup and delivery of research in the division of medicine. The team is based in the purpose-built Medical Research Unit. This role will be supporting a phase one study delivering cellular therapy to eligible Hepatology patients and will involve working throughout the Trust to make this study successful.
The Research Nurse will report to the Research Sister and the team is part of the division of medicine.

1. Assist in the overall setting up, organisation and running of a clinical trial within the MRU ensuring it is run to ICH-GCP standards within the Research Governance framework and adhering to other related regulations/SOPs.
2. Co-ordinate arrangements for patients participating in clinical trials, according to study protocols, and communicate all necessary information to relevant personnel.
3. Take day to day responsibility for the management of a portfolio of trials relating to site specific area(s), working in collaboration with the data management team and other members of the MRU team. Ensuring that information is kept up to date and a comprehensive portfolio is maintained as far as possible by working closely with investigators.
4. Provide leadership and motivation for staff, facilitate orientation and training programs, ensuring information about studies is available and disseminated as appropriate.
5. Professionally accountable for all actions and recognises limitations of the role.
6. Assists the Senior Research Nurses in the day-to-day management of the nursing aspects of clinical research, deputises in their absence.
7. Assists the MRU manager and senior team in the strategic planning and development of the unit.
