The National Institute of Economic and Social Research is a leading independent research institute specialising in applied social and economic research. We combine high academic standards with relevance to policy making, offering an ideal base for building a national profile in academic or policy research that makes real impact.
We are seeking an Interim HR Manager to join the Business Support Team, covering a period of maternity leave starting in March. The post holder will oversee the HR function providing high-quality support to NIESR's staff team of around 50, including business partnering services to the SteerCo and line managers.
Key Responsibilities:
General HR
* Provide expert advice and support on all HR matters, escalating to the CFO as needed.
* Manage leave, including maternity, paternity, and shared parental leave, and flexible working requests.
* Maintain accurate employee records and update them in a timely manner.
* Ensure timely and accurate payroll information is provided to the Finance team.
* Maintain key documentation such as org charts, pay structure information, MI, and dashboard reporting.
* Manage NIESR's HR system, Breathe HR.
Resourcing
* Coordinate recruitment activity from JD review to onboarding.
* Coordinate visa applications and maintain the Institute's status as an approved sponsor, with support from the HR consultant if required.
Performance Management
* Set up thorough inductions for new starters, including meetings with recognised trade unions.
* Support managers during probationary periods, diarizing key dates, providing documentation, and guidance where required.
* Coordinate annual appraisals, sending reminders, providing documentation, and ensuring completed appraisals are returned on time.
* Organise training requests and bookings.
Employee Engagement
* Administer biennial staff surveys.
* Lead the EDI taskforce and drive implementation of ideas.
* Enrol new staff onto Perkbox, our employee benefits system.
Training and Development
* Ongoing review of NIESR's training provision.
* Roll out training using our platform KNowbe4 where needed.
* Coach and train line managers in people management skills and activities.
Requirements
1. CIPD qualification or equivalent.
2. Up-to-date knowledge of current HR issues and thinking, with a sound understanding of human resources strategy's contribution to organisational success.
3. Solid working knowledge of employment law.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adaptable to audience.
5. High level of attention to detail.
