About the Role
Magna Advanced Automation (MAA) is an operating unit of Magna International, one of the world's premier global automotive suppliers. Magna's pioneering technology and creativity allows our customers to ask for solutions that lie beyond what they previously thought was possible. MAA is establishing a manufacturing facility in Telford, UK to design, build, commission and install assembly cells for both an internal and external customer base.
The Controls Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, commissioning and acceptance of automated assembly lines and machines. Full life cycle responsibilities of projects include designing to customer standards, producing an FDS, HMI design and commissioning, safety matrix development and safety/run at rate buy-off activities. Knowledge of electrical, pneumatic and communication network design is required, as well as a thorough knowledge of the safety requirements related to automated assembly lines. Understanding of robot integration expected. Experience in computer programming, robot programming, EPLAN and automated welding processes are considered an asset.
Your Responsibilities
1. Design and program complex automation solutions throughout project lifecycles, including supervising the installation at the customer's facility.
2. Creation of functional design specification.
3. Working on multi-line projects as part of a team.
4. Effective communications with Electrical, Mechanical, Process and Shop floor departments regarding design changes and issues.
5. Participation in Continuous Improvement activities across the department.
6. Effective management of program back-ups and version control.
7. Investigate, troubleshoot & resolve automation failures.
8. Good management of design and commission time. Able to effectively hit project milestones.
9. A good team player, willing to assist other controls engineers on other projects.
10. Eliminate the risk of spill of non-conforming product through the processes with automated solutions.
11. Integration of cell upgrades through hardware and software additions.
Who we are looking for
You should have:
1. A minimum 3 years' experience programming of automated production lines.
2. Extensive knowledge of PLC and HMI design and commissioning, TIA/Step 7 + Safety & Startdrive /Starter. Be fully fluent in ladder, graph and SCL languages and have significant experience with Siemens WinCC / WinCC Flex and Allen Bradley/Rockwell software.
3. Advanced knowledge of DeviceNet, Ethernet/IP, ProfiNET, ProfiSAFE and other communication protocols.
4. Advanced knowledge of pneumatic safety principles and design with experience of resistance welding, electrical standards and latest safety standards.
5. You understand motion control and robot integration and have the ability to troubleshoot issues on automated manufacturing lines.
6. You have revision & version management experience with the ability to read and interpret electrical & pneumatic drawings and carry out OEE calculations.
7. Continuous Improvement Activities come as second nature to you and you have the proven ability and willingness to train others.
It would be beneficial if you had:
1. Experience in electrical design, panel design and/or panel building. VBA and C# languages. Experience with robot functions, hydraulic design knowledge. WinCC Faceplate experience.
2. Previous Automotive T1 manufacturing experience and knowledge of IIoT/Industry 4.0.
Your preferred qualifications
Qualified to a minimum HNC level or equivalent in Manufacturing /Electrical/Mechatronics Engineering.
