We have a great opportunity for a Male Support Worker* to work with a 16 year old young man based in Undy. Client is currently studying his A ‘levels. Role will involve supporting client to attend various activities, including boccia / powered wheelchair rugby / swimming as well as attending social events. Some support with personal care will be needed as well as administering medication.
Previous experience, and full driving licence are essential And confidence to drive a wheelchair accessible van.

Purpose
To provide support and care for the client ensuring safety and physical wellbeing. To facilitate the client’s independence by adopting the appropriate approach as advised by the case manager.
About the Client
The client is a 16 year old young man who is currently studying his A ‘levels/. The client has cerebral palsy which has impacted on his physical well-being and speech, he also has a diagnosis of epilepsy which is very well managed. He is reliant on a powered wheelchair for outdoor mobility, he is able to mobilise short distances with support of one or will mobilise on his knees indoors.
His upper limb coordination and strength is reduced, he therefore requires support to complete everyday functional tasks dressing / eating / writing. He is an independent young man who will always try to maximise his independence level as possible. His speech has been affected; however, he copes very well with this and is happy to repeat if needed
He has a very supportive family who until now have provided all required support.
What you will be working:
Hours alter term time / school holidays.
During term time every Wednesday hours 15.00 21.00 (6 hours)
During school holidays Tuesday and Thursday 9.00 16.00 (x2 7-hour shifts)
Salary:£14.50 per hour
Occasional evening support
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY DUTIES
* To ensure consistency of approach with the client in accordance with advised approaches to care and any emerging therapy aims.
* To liaise with and support the family as required.
* To work as part of a team and communicate appropriately with fellow team members.
* To follow the service user plan as documented for the client.
* To participate in manual handling procedures as specified for the client.
* To ensure opportunity is given to participate in activities as identified by client / others while achieving a balance between work and rest for the client.
* To deliver programmes of educational, social and therapeutic development as directed by the relevant professionals and family
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
At the minimum, applicants will be expected to have some experience of caring.
You must be registered with or working towards registration with Social Care Wales.
NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Care is desirable
* Some experience of caring or providing care for clients with physical and communication difficulties.
* Good understanding of the personal and physical needs of a client with physical and cognitive difficulties.
* Ability to follow instructions / guidance.
Other requirements (essential):
* Applicants must have a full driving licence and access to their own vehicle as they will be required to transport the client.
* This position requires a fully enhanced disclosure request from the DBS, which the employer will obtain and fund on your behalf. You will also be required to register with the DBS Update Service.
* You must be registered with or working towards registration with Social Care Wales.
