We have an exciting opportunity for a Cloud Platform Engineer to join our Technology team on a permanent basis.
The Platform Engineer role is to provide automation, tooling, and cloud infrastructure capabilities for technology & delivery/project teams.
This is a hands-on role, that will carry out a wide range of activities, from actively building (sometimes from the ground-up), maintaining, monitoring, and supporting Azure-based Cloud infrastructure, using a combination of Azure IaaS, PaaS & SaaS service components, adhering to technical standards and frameworks, engaging with non-technical people.
Our platform engineers work both embedded within enduring delivery, or project teams or within the central cloud platform team.

The Role
You’ll build, maintain & support infrastructure for high-volume, high-performance, high-availability applications and platforms and ensure the effective delivery of work within iteration cycles:
* Adhering to technical standards within delivery teams.
* Resolve specific technical challenges, ensuring that solutions fulfil overall business objectives.
* Drive continuous improvement in the performance and resilience of our live services.
* Provide oversight of junior & trainee Cloud Platform Engineers.
* Support new and existing Cloud Platform Engineers & infrastructure colleagues with the ongoing transition to agile ways of working, agile delivery teams, and the cloud migration journey by ensuring they have the right skills and training.
* Actively contributing towards the Cloud Community of Practice and wider technology function – sharing knowledge and experience.
* Building and maintaining pipelines that promote safe and repeatable deployments.
* Following standards and best practices in terms of data privacy and information security.
* Actively contributing to the appropriate feedback forums & ceremonies, such as stand-ups, retrospectives, show and tells etc.
* Ensuring Cloud Infrastructure is operating within appropriate cost parameters and that monitoring and altering is in place to highlight exceptions and outside of tolerance usage.
* May be required to provide 24/7 on call technical support (as part of a sensible rota).
About you
We’d like to see significant experience in a hands-on platform engineering role within an Azure environment using terraform.
* Experience of working with Azure cloud-based infrastructure.
* Experience and preference to work with "Infrastructure as Code" - terraform.
* Familiarity with full cloud networking; TCP/IP, DNS, Routing, HTTP/S, Peering, Vnets, NSG’s, VPN’s, load balancers, and boundary security appliances.
* Familiar with cloud infrastructure security best practices.
* Familiar with Azure-AD, Landing Zones and Subscriptions.
* Experience working with monitoring & alerting tools & technologies.
* Experience working with "Infrastructure as Code" templating tooling (e.g. Puppet, Chef, Ansible).
* Working experience with CI/CD tooling & practices (e.g. Github, Jenkins, TeamCity, automation techniques).
* Experience with scripting languages/tools like Bash, Ruby, Python.
* Exposure to or familiar with Azure Policy.
* Exposed to agile/devops practices and familiar with terminology.
* Exposure to or familiar with Microsoft well-architected framework.
* Comfortable working in agile and waterfall delivery-type teams.
* Familiar with Confluence & Jira.
* Experience in a financial services or other highly regulated environment.
