To provide a regular reliable and efficient Street Cleaning (Gully) service, operating specialist vehicles and equipment to the residents, businesses and visitors of Hull. Cleaning and maintaining up to 65,000 gullies per year throughout Hull. To undertake general maintenance and repair works of watercourses to ensure their efficiency and prevent flooding.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Please note decision making must be included within the Principal Accountabilities
1. Deliver a regular and reliable service, to ensure the completion of all scheduled daily work and all urgent requests in line with safe working practices.
2. Conduct assessments of new and temporary employees as required.
3. Report any unresolved issues or problem areas affecting crew performance to Manager or Customer Relations along with corrective action.
4. Responsible for route planning and the wearing of the correct necessary Personal Protection Equipment.
5. Communicate via Mobex any urgent information to other crews, Area Manager or Customer Relations.
6. Undertake appropriate works on watercourses within the city to ensure these are kept free of debris, sluices are in good working order and screens are kept clear.
7. Provide front line 24 hour, 365 day per year response to emergency call outs to incidents involving imminent flooding.
8. Clear blockages and flooding from drains, being the first in attendance at flooding incidents.
9. Drive and operate a 17 tonne Low Volume combination specialist machine carrying out various tasks including using vacuum and pressure systems and high and low water pressure jetting apparatus, ensuring regular maintenance.
10. Attend to specific requests from the public and the Police, maintaining confidentiality as required.
11. Participate in special projects i.e. 100 day clean up and Hull Fair.
12. Drive a wide range of vehicles (11, 17 & 26 tonne Large Goods Vehicles) in areas of extremely tight access in all weather conditions.
13. Ensure the vehicle is operated legally at all times with reference to Road Traffic Acts, Health & Safety and the Environment Protection Act 1990.
14. Be responsible for own vehicle including daily & weekly maintenance checks and recording vehicle checks, defects, mileage and driving hours.
15. Report suspected urgent vehicle faults to Management and wait with vehicle for breakdown assistance.
16. Drive any vehicle on any reasonable task as directed by Manager, including delivery and setting up of surface water pumps to prevent flooding.
17. Provide the 'Winter Maintenance' priority service as appropriate, attending to priority areas to ensure public safety during icy weather conditions.
18. Adhere to the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and associated legislation, ensuring personal responsibility for health, safety and wellbeing.
