Purpose
Smart Grid Operations is at the heart of SPEN Digitalisation strategy which will enable our path to Net Zero and will deliver a better service to our customers. Smart Grid Operations is a key enabler to our path to DSO with ambitious plans to deliver an enhanced and improved infrastructure focused on evolved Energy control systems, increased Automation, and redundant, resilient, scalable, and cyber secure telecoms infrastructure.
Our Smart Grid Operations is responsible for maintaining and operating Telecoms, AEMS/Real Time Systems, and data centre OT Infrastructure for all 3 licences within SP Energy Networks (SP Transmission, SP Distribution and SP Manweb). We look to them to ensure operational integrity, cyber security/resilience, reliable performance and high availability of these critical 24/7 services together with efficient and effective delivery of associated capex and opex expenditure.
Responsibilities
As the Head of Smart Grid Operations you will help our business drive safety culture, ensuring all legislation and company rules, policies and procedures are adhered to while taking the lead on the development and justification of expenditure plans to support regulatory price controls, securing the funding necessary to deliver SPEN plans.
You will have a commitment to ensure that SGO estate operates with the highest level of resilience and cyber security compliance while fully engaging with our Iberdrola Global Networks team to ensure delivery of local and global smart grid and cyber plans.
Effectively managing a wide range of suppliers and contractors including multi-million-pound contracts around operational telecommunications, support and upgrade of control room systems and smart metering.
We will look to you to lead and coach a team of people (including staff who are Operationally Authorised) to deliver agreed results and provide services and solutions in line with company safety, customer service and engineering standards. Ensuring that innovation is applied across the whole team, including collaborating with external parties, and translating these developments into policies and plans to manage risk and maximise value for the business.
Skills and Requirements
We will look for you to have a working knowledge of Energy Networks policies, procedures and working practices as well as knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation.
You will have an awareness of network development policies and procedures with broad experience in operations and OT/IT environments.
Project, contract & SLA management, and general commercial & regulatory awareness is essential as we will look for you to be a motivating and inspiring leader with well-developed negotiation, communication, and people management skills.
Working knowledge of industrial relations framework is also key for us and you will also have demonstrable experience of senior line management role(s) in an operational, regulatory or project management environment.
Minimum Criteria
Engineering qualification: BSc/BEng (or HND/HNC with significant relevant experience).
You will have experience in project management and IT systems appreciation with a detailed understanding of the following technical disciplines:
1. Real-Time Systems/SCADA
2. Telecoms
3. Cyber Security
