We're looking to recruit 2 dynamic and enthusiastic Consultants in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with a special interest to join our forward-thinking team.

Main duties of the job
1. Post 1 Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with a special interest in High-Risk Pregnancy: This is a new post to support and develop antenatal services. Elective work will include specialist antenatal clinics, fetal scan sessions, and participation in elective caesarean section lists. Gynaecology clinics/theatre sessions will depend on skills and further development needs for the post holder.
2. Post 2 Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with a special interest in a Gynaecology area: This is a replacement post. Desirable ATSMs include subfertility, oncology, benign abdominal surgery, or hysteroscopy. The job plan will be tailored to the successful applicant's special interest area. Non-emergency duties will include gynaecology clinics, theatre sessions, antenatal clinics, and, occasionally, supporting elective caesarean section lists.
Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC, hold a licence to practise, and be on the Specialist Register (or within 6 months of entry) by the date of interview. We are open to considering part-time applicants, with an adjusted Job Plan tailored to suit the successful candidate.
About us
We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities
Clinical
1. Provide specialist care to patients at UHND and across the Trust, in line with areas of expertise.
2. Support the delivery of regular gynaecology and antenatal clinics.
3. Participate in gynaecology theatre lists, with procedures tailored to your level of experience.
4. Take part in elective caesarean section lists.
5. Attend Evidence-Based Guidelines meetings, contributing to the review and updating of clinical guidelines.
6. Undertake clinical shifts as directed by the Clinical Director for Obstetrics and Gynaecology, including participation in on-call, out-of-hours, and weekend rotas.
7. Conduct regular clinical reviews of patients in collaboration with doctors in training, ensuring that patient records (including discharge summaries) are accurately updated following each review.
8. Provide clinical management of patients referred to outpatient services.
9. Collaborate with patients, families, colleagues, midwifery staff, support staff, and external agencies to ensure coordinated, multidisciplinary care.
10. Take a leadership and mentoring role for doctors in training and other department staff.
11. Provide cover for colleagues during annual leave and short-term sickness.
Education/Training
1. Share responsibility with other consultants for the clinical supervision of junior medical staff.
2. Participate in teaching, examinations, and accreditation duties as required, and contribute to Continuing Medical Education and clinical governance activities.
3. Participation in Trust-wide programmes, including mandatory learning.
Audit and Research
1. Contribute to departmental research efforts in alignment with the Trust's R&D framework.
2. Participate in the Trust's Audit Programme.
3. Engage in continuous professional development and ensure eligibility for relevant specialist medical registration.
4. Participate in clinical governance committees, including regular clinical and external peer reviews.
5. Sessional time required for any participation in research activity will be agreed on commencement and kept under review, but not all consultants will require such sessional time.
Managerial Responsibilities
1. Collaborate with clinical and professional colleagues to ensure staff productivity and job satisfaction within the specialty, which may include involvement in the appraisal process for junior colleagues.
2. Undertake management duties as agreed with the Clinical Director and Head of Service.
3. Participate in departmental and Trust-wide meetings to meet corporate and service objectives.
4. Play an active role in formulating, implementing, and monitoring the Trust's objectives, including assisting with service planning and development discussions with both internal and external stakeholders.
5. Conduct all activities in line with the department's contracted service level and operating plan.
6. Provide professional leadership for all staff working within the specialty.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
* Valid Full Registration with the General Medical Council.
* Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists or equivalent.
* Relevant CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by PMETB/GMC by date of AAC).
* On the specialist Register for the above or within 6 months of being admitted to the register by the AAC.
* Other relevant medical and non-medical training/degree.
Desirable
* Other relevant postgraduate qualifications e.g. Masters degree, diplomas.
* Management training.

* Should have attained or be within 6 months of attaining CCT in specialty at time of interview.

* ATSM or equivalent in Advanced Labour Ward Practice.
