Locum Litigation & Regulatory Lawyer – 3 Months + – Hybrid Working – £55 Umbrella – Wales
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Locum Litigation & Regulatory Lawyer to join a reputable Local Authority in Wales on an interim basis. This position is offered for an initial term of 3 months, with any extensions to be agreed thereafter.
This is a part time position, to start as soon as possible. In-person court attendance will be required, with remote working available for the remainder of the time.
The successful candidate will be an experienced Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive with prior experience working within Local Governments. This role involves handling a varied caseload with a focus on criminal, regulatory and enforcement work, to include public protection, housing, planning control and trading standards matters. Knowledge of general civil litigation law is also required.
Duties may include:
1. Mixed Litigation being Civil and Criminal enforcement
2. Handling a backlog of criminal instructions
3. Focusing general regulatory and enforcement matters, including housing (possessions and injunctions), ASB, homelessness and disrepair claims, unauthorised encampments –
4. Drafting relevant documents both in civil, regulatory and criminal legal proceedings
5. Advising on requests for information
6. Defending the Council against housing and disrepair claims and negotiated settlement figures in relation to housing disrepair matters
7. Dealing with multi-track, fast-track and small claims track Housing Disrepair Claims
8. Drafting summons, indictments, case summaries and disclosure requests
9. Authorising and presenting cases before the Magistrates, County and Crown Courts
