We are looking for a Lead User Researcher to drive user research strategy and execution within agile teams. In this role, you will ensure that user needs are at the heart of service development, aligning with the UK Government’s Digital by Default Service Standards. Working closely with designers, analysts, and developers, you will translate research insights into actionable recommendations, shape research roadmaps, and champion user-centred design (UCD). As a senior member of the UCD community, you will also play a key role in defining and implementing our UX strategy, while supporting bid teams by identifying and developing compelling case studies.
Hybrid working: The places that you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of Company offices, client sites, and your home; noting that you will be unable to work at home 100% of the time.
Your role
1. Lead user research strategy and execution within agile teams, ensuring alignment with UK Government’s Digital by Default Service Standards.
2. Work closely with designers, analysts, and developers to translate research insights into actionable recommendations.
3. Shape research roadmaps and champion user-centred design (UCD) principles.
4. Mentor and support junior researchers, fostering their professional growth.
5. Advocate for accessibility, inclusivity, and ethical research practices.
6. Stay updated on emerging technologies to enhance research approaches.
7. Effectively communicate research findings to influence design and policy decisions.
8. Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring high-quality research outputs.
Your skills and experience
1. Extensive experience in user research, ideally in the UK public sector.
2. Strong knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research techniques and GDS framework.
3. Expertise in accessibility, inclusivity, GDPR, and ethical research practices.
4. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
5. Project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects.
6. Experience mentoring and supporting junior researchers.
7. Interest in emerging technologies and their impact on user research.
8. Experience leading large-scale research projects.
9. Familiarity with data analytics and service design methodologies.
10. Strong workshop facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills.
Your security clearance
To be successfully appointed to this role, it is a requirement to be eligible for Security Clearance. The successful applicant must have resided continuously within the United Kingdom for the last 5 years, along with other criteria and requirements.
