THE PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Due to continued and ambitious international Firm growth, our Business Acceptance Unit is looking to expand, with the hire of an additional Conflicts professional, to meet the needs of the business.
As a Conflicts Assistant, you will be a crucial member of the BAU team, responsible for performing conflicts searches and using your analytical skills to provide a curated report detailing the Conflicts position. In addition, you will be a point of contact for fee-earners to discuss conflicts issues and take responsibility for the maintenance of confidential and price-sensitive information safeguards.
This position offers a high level of stakeholder engagement from the outset, exposure to a variety of international Conflict matters and the opportunity to progress and develop your Risk and Compliance career with a fast-growing, forward-looking business.
THE TEAM
The Business Acceptance Unit (BAU) forms part of the Firm's OGC Directorate and is based across the Firm's Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Dubai offices.
The role reports to the BAU Conflicts Team Leader and involves the analysis of conflict and confidential information issues in accordance with the Solicitors Regulation Authority ('SRA') Code of Conduct 2019.
The team delivers high-quality advice/guidance to the Firm across all aspects of legal and commercial conflicts of interest, and associated risk relevant work, providing support to the OGC team with complex conflicts / high risk / reputational issues.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS ROLE
As an Assistant in the Conflicts Team, you will ensure that the Firm complies with its regulatory obligations by processing and analysing conflict searches in relation to the Firm's inbound client and matter instructions, implementing and maintaining Information Barriers and Insider Lists, and dealing with general client and matter inception queries and engagement letter maintenance.
You will work collaboratively with wider BAU Conflicts colleagues and OGC Lawyers (OGC Conflicts) to resolve conflict and confidential information issues.
Additionally, you will:
1. Process and filter conflict search results, conducting legal and commercial analysis of potential conflict and confidentiality issues. Reporting only key issues to partners, fee earners or the OGC team.
2. Analyse confidential records to assess relevance and support OGC in referrals to the Conflicts Committee / Conflicts Partner.
3. Liaise with PAs, fee earners, partners and OGC in relation to potential issues and general queries.
4. Process all queries received into the team's inbox, including the creation and maintenance of information barriers, processing of relevant reports and other ad hoc tasks. Dealing with compliance related queries with supervision.
5. Undertake project work in relation to BAU workflows, monitoring systems and controls.
YOUR AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE
To be successful in this role you will have:
1. Strong and demonstrable analytical skills with an ability to deal with high volumes of information. The ability to understand complex areas of law and apply relevant legal and commercial knowledge.
2. Knowledge of and understanding of how to apply the SRA Code of Conduct 2019 (specifically paragraph 6.1-6.5) and Market Abuse Regulations (MAR).
3. Interpersonal skills – the confidence to liaise with partners and other stakeholders to provide advice on legal and commercial issues, regulations and firm policy.
4. Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail with an ability to work under pressure whilst managing competing deadlines.
5. Initiative, prioritising and promptly responding to requests/queries, addressing concerns, anticipating additional needs.
6. Delivering results and providing proactive solutions to difficult issues.
7. Proficient use of Microsoft Office Software (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint); previous experience of using Intapp is preferable.
