As part of the Transport UK Group, West Midlands Trains delivers around 1,300 train journeys a day, for more than 60 million passengers a year, across our two brands - West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway.
We are committed to delivering a safe and reliable train service, by investing in our fleet of trains, stations and employees. As part of this investment we are looking to recruit a Revenue Management Analyst, on a full-time, permanent basis, based in Birmingham.
You will maximise profitability and customer satisfaction by managing discounted fare allocations on ‘Express’ routes and/or by managing the strategic and tactical deployment of capacity at key times in liaison with the Timetable Planning Department.
What does the job involve?
* Key responsibility for optimising discounted fare allocations to maximise passenger revenue, using ‘Appia’, our Decision Support System.
* Support the management of the set-up of new timetables of service templates and service groups in the Reservations Service (RARS) liaising with the Train Planning team.
* Management of the weekly creation of trains, undertaking amendments due to engineering work and releasing trains in RARS to maintain the company’s ten week booking horizon.
* Responsible for maintaining the Train Count database and ensuring that the data from it is ‘fit for purpose’ to inform business decisions. A key task is working with Fleet and IT teams to ensure the accurate transfer of data to the Train Count Database.
* A key role in managing the preparation and collation of train counts for the DfT Spring & Autumn Census counts and the assembly of the DfT train service capacity plan for each major timetable change.
* Preparation and production of ‘Travel more comfortably’ posters for the West Coast South and Cross City lines as producing information for the ‘How busy is my train’ facility on the website.
* Manage queries from the Trainline and other retail/reservations outlets regarding the acceptance of Group Travel Bookings.
* Identifying times of extraordinary demand (e.g. Special Events, Bank Holidays, Half Term) and understanding the forecasted impact on train loadings, in order to develop an Action Plan for managing capacity at these times, making recommendations and implementation pending approval.
* Reviewing ‘action plans’ after the event as part of the ‘Plan, Do, Review’ cycle so as to inform future strategy going forward.
What skills and experience do I need to do the job?
* Primarily the post holder will need to be highly numerate with strong attention to detail and comfortable analysing data and developing simple business cases.
* Computer literacy would be a major advantage, especially the use of Excel and Word which would be used extensively.
* The ability to use RARS is also required but training for this will be supplied as necessary.
* The post holder will be self-motivated and comfortable working on their own for fairly long periods of time.
* A highly organised person with the ability to plan ahead with a clear vision of ‘what’ needs to be achieved and ‘how’ to implement it.
* An understanding of ‘retail’ and ‘fare types’ within the Rail Industry would be a key advantage.
* Previous experience in a Revenue Management role would be helpful but not a requirement.
* Good communication skills both written and oral will be required in liaising with other Commercial team members and other departments.
What are the salary and benefits?
* Salary – Up to £42,000 depending on experience.
* Defined Benefit pension – one of the best in the UK.
* Free travel on all our trains and those of other train companies within our parent group company - for you, your partner and any dependent children.
* 75% off all other train company travel tickets.
