We are looking to recruit within the Access Centre, Inpatient Department at Southport and Ormskirk District General Hospital.

Main duties of the job
The post will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of Consultant waiting lists, allocation of patients to Consultant theatre lists based on clinic priority, waiting times and timings of procedures.
Liaising with Consultants to ensure utilisation of theatre lists. Liaising with theatre coordinator on behalf of consultants regarding availability of theatre equipment when planning theatre sessions and general admin duties.
You should have excellent keyboard skills, knowledge of the Hospital Patient Administrative System (Medway), and some experience working within an office setting. Good communication and telephone skills and the ability to work independently are also essential.
Job responsibilities
KEY DUTIES
To provide a comprehensive inpatient and outpatient service to patients. The post will rotate through each of the areas within the access office to enable cover in all respects of the service.
To be named contact point liaising with patients, relatives and/or carers, as well as medical representatives, GPs, nursing staff, surgical team, and support services to ensure the admission is appropriately planned and managed.
Accurate addition of patients to the waiting list ensuring any relevant notes are recorded.
To provide advice to patients regarding their admission (pre and post-operative guidance) and their position on the waiting list.
To plan multiple theatre/procedure lists up to six weeks in advance, using clinical knowledge and medical terminology to meet patients' 18-week, diagnostic, cancer and/or 28-day rescheduling targets.
Ensure that with effective planning and organisation the theatre/procedure lists are utilised to their maximum potential, considering specific patient needs, cancelling/rescheduling patients, and liaising with the surgeon regarding theatre list order.
Responsible for communicating information and changes relating to elective admissions, theatre lists, and specific kit requirements to relevant staff Trustwide.
Identify, attempt to resolve and pre-empt situations which may result in a breach of access targets.
To work flexibly according to the needs of the service including covering for colleagues during periods of leave.
