Job purpose
The Estimator will play a key role in preparing accurate cost estimates for bespoke fitted furniture projects. This involves interpreting client bill of quantities, design requirements and specifications. Calculating materials, labour, and production costs, and ensuring competitive pricing while maintaining profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Quoting:
* Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for furniture projects based on client specifications, drawings, and designs.
* Calculate costs for materials, labour, machinery usage, and any subcontractor involvement.
* Produce clear and professional quotations for clients in a timely manner.
Client Interaction & Interpretation:
* Collaborate with clients, sales teams, and designers to understand project requirements and specifications.
* Review technical drawings, sketches, or plans and highlight any concerns or areas for clarification.
Material & Supplier Management:
* Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing for raw materials, components, and external services.
* Monitor and manage supplier cost fluctuations.
Project Coordination:
* Work with the design and production teams to assess feasibility and identify cost-saving solutions.
* Provide ongoing support during the project lifecycle to ensure alignment with cost expectations.
Documentation & Reporting:
* Maintain detailed records of estimates, quotations, and supplier communications.
* Provide regular reports on estimate performance and cost analysis to directors.
Skills & Experience
* Minimum 2 years’ experience in estimating.
* Background in construction, joinery, furniture manufacturing, or a relevant technical qualification.
* Proficiency in interpreting and analysing technical drawings and specifications.
* Experience using estimating software or Excel-based costing tools.
