About the role
This leading, ambitious mid-tier accountancy firm is looking to hire a Private Client Manager to join their exciting and growing department. You will be required to drive the delivery of personal tax compliance and advisory work, including writing reports and leading discussions with prospective and existing clients. You will also be required to oversee a team of junior staff who are responsible for day-to-day delivery of private client services across a diverse portfolio of individual clients.
We are looking for someone to actively manage the delivery of the private client offering for the team, including making suggestions for improving internal processes and efficiencies. This will include mentoring the team to develop their soft skills and providing technical training periodically.
Key responsibilities:
1. Provide support to partners and directors in the effective running of the team.
2. Manage a portfolio consisting of a mix of clients with multiple sources of earned and investment income.
3. Drive the delivery of technical advisory work on the portfolio.
4. Deal with one-off advisory and compliance assignments.
5. Act as a key point of contact for the client.
6. Handle partnerships and high net worth individuals.
7. Oversee the UK tax return filling process for a broad variety of clients.
8. Monitor team progress against targets.
9. Provide feedback and give input into staff appraisals, as well as direct responsibility for appraising staff.
10. Encourage the personal development of all team members.
11. Produce written work to a high standard.
12. Make suggestions and implement changes to improve efficiency within the team.
Skills & expertise:
The candidate should have strong experience in personal tax which should ideally include the following areas:
Technical expertise:
1. CTA Qualified, or other professional qualification with demonstrable relevant experience.
2. Advanced understanding of core private client tax issues, including personal tax anti-avoidance legislation.
3. Confidently interact with HMRC regarding complex issues on behalf of clients.
4. Deliver advice confidently in transactional, litigious, or confrontational circumstances.
5. Report on tax and other implications of incorporation of self-employment and businesses.
6. Experience in Self-Assessment and preparation of tax computations.
7. Demonstrable experience of report writing and ad hoc advisory work.
8. Previous supervisory and management experience including reviewing the work of others.
