About the Opportunity:
RWE Renewables is offering the opportunity for motivated individuals to begin a career in renewable energy. This rewarding 3-year apprenticeship scheme will enable selected candidates to develop into technicians working on wind turbines. The first 2 years will be at one of our two apprenticeship providers: Coleg Llandrillo, Rhyl in North Wales or IPS International, Rochester.
The 3rd year will consist of on-site training from the Fleet Servicing Service Operations Vessel, which supports turbine maintenance at Greater Gabbard and London Array wind farms in the UK, along with Amrumbank, Kaskasi, and Nordsee Ost wind farms in Germany.
About the Role:
We will provide a comprehensive and well-supported learning program, including classroom-based learning and experience on-site with our technicians. Full completion of the apprenticeship will result in an NVQ level 3 qualification in wind turbine operations and maintenance and a level 3 diploma in wind turbine maintenance.
Our Wind Turbine Technicians work as part of a small team focused on specific offshore wind farms. Enrolled candidates will learn to carry out all aspects of wind turbine maintenance, including scheduled, unscheduled, proactive, and troubleshooting maintenance on wind turbines.
Key Responsibilities:
Examples of the tasks covered as technicians in the longer term include:
1. Electro/Mechanical problem solving of wind turbines working in small teams at height in remote locations with user manuals as reference.
2. Working with advanced mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical equipment in a safe manner.
3. Planning in advance what tools, spares, and materials are required for each job.
4. Fault finding and diagnosis of wind turbine main component condition to assist in determining if site repair is possible or whether the unit requires exchange.
5. Ongoing personal development and training to become a multi-skilled technician covering all aspects of inspection, maintenance, and repair of wind turbines.
Job Requirements and Experience:
Fleet Servicing is a newly established team within Offshore Operations responsible for the annual servicing of wind turbines at Trident, Greater Gabbard, and London Array from a Service Operations Vessel.
The Fleet SOV will perform services 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. You will be part of a team that will perform services from the vessel, working a 14-day on, 14-day off rotation from ports in the UK and Germany.
* You will be motivated to take part and undertake a practical role; standby may be required.
* 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at 4/C or above, including Science, Maths, and English.
* Willingness to learn and develop.
* Interest in engineering.
* Able to work at height.
* Able to work at sea.
* Willing to undertake international travel to the service ports.
* Willing to work shifts, staying for up to 2 weeks on a SOV.

Accommodation/Travel:
Term-time accommodation will be provided with RWE, with the costs of rent and utilities paid by RWE. Accommodation is only available while you are at college.
During term time, there will be a reasonable allowance for food and drink while away from home. RWE will pay for travel costs for journeys home at the weekends.
Travel to the Assessment Centre:
For those candidates invited to the assessment day, all reasonable travel costs will be paid by RWE. This will be discussed with you upon invitation.
Holidays:
25 days (to be taken outside of term time), plus public holidays.
