This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative, award-winning London-based Material Science company. They are leaders within their field and are entering an exciting phase of scale-up and commercialisation. Due to the natural growth of the business, they are looking for a Material Development Scientist (18 month FTC) to join the team.
What you'll be doing?
As a Material Development Scientist, you will lead research and development of innovative bio-based materials, focusing on rapid discovery and optimization through design of experiments (DOE) and high-throughput experimentation. Key responsibilities include:
* Leading Experimentation: Design and execute high-throughput experiments for bio-based materials that support sustainability goals.
* Conducting Quantitative Research: Manage laboratory-scale experiments from design to execution with scientific rigor.
* Data Analysis: Analyse experimental data, interpret findings, and recommend improvements for products and processes.
* Collaborative Teamwork: Engage with cross-functional teams, including scientists, engineers, and developers, to ensure project success.
* Effective Communication: Communicate complex scientific concepts to stakeholders through technical reports, presentations, and documentation.
* Continuous Learning: Stay updated on bio-based material advancements, incorporating new knowledge into research.
* Health and Safety: Adhere to safety protocols, maintaining a secure and organized lab environment.
* Data Management: Keep detailed, well-organized records of experimental work and results.
What they are looking for?
A candidate should have a Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field with over 5 years of industry experience in material development (experience with bio-based materials is advantageous) or a PhD in a similar field with at least 2 years of experience. They should demonstrate a strong foundation in materials discovery and product development, particularly with bio-based materials, and be skilled in high-throughput and combinatorial techniques, including the design of experiments (DOE). Proficiency in quantitative research is essential, with experience in rigorous experimentation, statistical analysis, and mathematical modelling, along with excellent analytical and systems-thinking skills, particularly in engineering complex, multi-scale systems.
What you'll get in return?
This role will be based full-time in Bermondsey. The salary is competitive and is an 18 month FTC with the likelihood to extend onwards beyond this.
